FA Cup - Extra Preliminary Round

Recommended Posts

I was quite disappointed not to see Tokyngton Manor in the FA Cup this season, they would have really pulled up trees with Emond Protain capable of anything and could have quite easily beaten Chasetown's 2007/2008 record of being the lowest ranked Non League Club to play in the third round proper of the competition

yeah tik tok against chelsea....i can see it now. im sure emond whoever would make john terry look silly!!!!!!

you stupid man!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saturday 20 August

2 0 Haringey Borough v AFC Kempston Rovers

A report on this one from another's Forum:

FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round

Haringey Borough 2-0 Kempston Rovers

I got quite damp on the walk from Alexandra Palace station to Wood Green as I forgot to take my brolly. After some chicken, I caught a bus the rest of the way to Coles Park and arrived just in time for kick off.

It rained for most of, if not all of the first half. The players displayed lots of poor ball control, which may or may not have had something to do with the weather. A fairly even first half was upset when Haringey scored five minutes before half time.

In the second half Haringey were much the better team, creating a steady stream of chances. Only one more shot found the back of the net, but there could have been more.

Not a bad game by any stretch and as I've only seen two (competitive) matches this season, this one has to be the 'match of the year' so far!

Coles Park is a run-down ground with just the one covered area. That being a raised stand (good views) with several rows of seating. This is a ground that could do with a some money and love.

0 3 St Margaretsbury v Dunstable Town

I'm quite taken aback to read the various comments on another's Forum at how much St Margaretsbury charged yesterday:

St Margaretsbury 0 Dunstable Town 3

FA Cup

I liked this ground a lot more than I anticipated. The crowd all congregated in the stand & covered seating area as torrential downpours greated the start of the game.

St Margaretsbury had a first half effort ruled out for offside.

Dunstable were the better second half outfilt. They scored on 68 mins & then got two in the last 5 minutes.

St Margaretsbury 0 Dunstable Town 3

Also at this one, which meant parting with EIGHT QUID admission, plus another quid for a programme. Seriously, is this what they charge every week for step 5?

And if you're going to put the prices in the tea bar up, don't print an advert for it with the old prices in the programme.

Other than that a good game and the view from the stand was certainly enhanced by the two Dunstable WAGS in front of me. Having the 'bury manager's dad in the stand made for interesting banter, though he did admit he had to tone it down otherwise he wouldn't get a lift home.

St Margaretsbury 0 Dunstable Town 3

I think Barkingside tomorrow is also £8 exc. prog (it's normally £6 exc prog for league games).

I did notice that numerous posters around the place were phrased "FA Cup Admission Price" which made me wonder was it something "special", but I see plenty of the other ties were less.

2 4 Holmer Green v Harefield United

A brief report on this one from another's Forum:

FA CUP EXTRA PRELIMINARY ROUND

ADMISSION: £5

PROGRAMME £1

HOLMER GREEN [2] 2

HAREFIELD UTD [2] 4,

Harefield United came from behind twice as they won this thrilling cup tie at Airedale Park. The home side took the lead & whilst they were still celebrating the away team immediately equalized. Holmer Green regained the lead a few minutes later. The away team leveled the scores with a penalty. The away team scored two well taken goals to seal a deserved victory.

I liked the 'Dunstable WAG's' quote and the fact they didn't hide raising the prices, even for a cup of tea.

New tag line for the FA Cup - Raising the excitement, Raising the prices.

Saturday 20 August

3 1 Colney Heath v Langford

A report on this one from another's Forum, imagine if the reporter had gone to St Margaretsbury!:

Colney Heath (0) 3 v 1 (0) Langford

F.A. Cup extra prel round

Admission £6 (normally £5, why £6?), Programme £1, tea 70p

Attendance; 44

With the heavy rain that seemed to gain momentum as I made the short journey south down the A1, I decided that a bit of cover was in order for the first of the days games. Hence a short diversion from my original game at London Colney Blues, to the F.A. Cup tie at Colney Heath, where the SSML Prem side were taking on SSML Div One side Langford. After a quiet and intense first half where both failed to create much in the way of serious chances, the second half was to prove a lot more entertaining. Colney Heath opened with a penalty six minutes after the break and doubled the lead in the 67th when player manager Kevin Cooper, a half time substitute, claimed his second of the game. Langford pulled one back with twelve minutes remaining but any though of comeback were dashed as Ricky Perks score a third for the home side on eighty four minutes.
