Surely the point is if you were to let the cat out of the bag the cat would have to be alive in the first place or you could not LET it out. If the cat was dead then you would have to physically remove it either bt picking or shaking it out. A different thing altogether.

 

Also the bag would have to have been the right size or else the cat would not have been able to get in there and stay alive. It would also have had to be done up or he would have got out.

No. The point is, you cannot specify the exact state of an object without interacting with it in some way or other. But that doesn't mean that the state of the cat hasn't been determined, perhaps by the cat itself although it would only be able to do that if it were still alive.

 

Anyway, I forgot to mention it's supposed to have a vial of poison gas in there which has a 50% chance of being broken by a device wired to a Geiger counter set to detect the decay of a single atom of a radioactive substance. Not that that matters. It mighty have a heart problem or something. It just has to have an exactly 50% chance of being either dead or alive.
