Serious injury to young Ilford player

Recommended Posts

Just heard from the gaffer...

Last monday we were playing away at Sittinbourne...

Our defender Chris Tedder clashed heads...then played on for another 70 minutes...felt dizzy afterwards and thought nothing of it...

Wanted to play Saturday against Harlow but the gaffer said NO..!

Thank god he did..Tedder collapsed last night due to a fractured skull and is in hospital...!

Thinking of you Teds...

Best wishes mate...

All at Ilford...

Just proves that players dont always know best and to be thankful when someone makes the correct decision and gets further help after any injury.

Get back soon though.

Best wishes to Chris for a speedy recovery.

I feel that this level of football should adopt the principle where a player suffering concussion is automatically ruled out of all matches and training for at least seven days and then has to be medically assessed and given the all clear before being allowed to resume footballing activities.

I know that the first aid people are first class at Ilford, but not every club has that level of medical expertise to hand and it should not be left to either player or manager to make a judgement call on a player's ability to play following a blow to the head.

Other clubs may have allowed Chris to play on Saturday and things could have been a lot worse for him. We need rules at this level that err on the side of player safety. That is much more important than having your best team available for the next match.

Just spoke to Tedds in hospital...

He has had a CT scan....and thankfully it's clear.

Being sent home later.....great relief...

But thanks to you all for all the kind hearted messages.

It's much appreciated.
