FA Cup

The greatest club competition in the world but attendances are down compared to years ago. 5th round was always a sell out, there was 17000 at Bolton, inc 8000 West Ham fans.

There were empty seats at Villa Park last night.

My view is that TV has saturated the sport and too many are shown, also the cost is not being met by fans who have to pay up to £60.00 for league games.

I feel FA Cup ties should only see 1 game televised live per round encouraging fans to go, also the cost should be halved, after all the clubs could not budget for the income it must be extra.

Additionally why is the 6th round midweek?

TV perhaps?

What's your views please

it did seem like there was always a match on all weekend.

apart from the fact they're televised, alot of people who would go to the games can't because they dick around with the time so it can be televised one after the other. no way i'd be up for going to a sunday evening game, even though i love the fa cup.

£50.00 a ticket is just taking the michael, and if you were a villa fan having to sit through that yesterday, and pay for the honour, i pity you.

one game per week should be shown on a sunday lunchtime on normal telly. that's it.

clubs make more money from tv coverage than filling the remainder of the empty. this way they get gate money and tv money. The tv money is far more than putting a few extra bums on seats. Talk to Exeter city and Burton Albion and they would vote to keep things the way they are. As for mid-week games for the 6th round, this must be because England want their players to have 4 weeks together before the world cup.

premier league footie is on a down gates wise because of tv....thats a fact....but the money being paid to sky by the viewers and passed onto the televised clubs compensates for it....

for sure it doesn't bring the full houses that we all would like to see but we can't have it all ways....I love footie on the telly and so does the majority of the population....it won't change....

sunday evening will always bring poor gates anyway as most people are in church and rightly so....

and maxy...there were 3000 'ammers at bolton yesterday.....

I know what you mean Max, it's not good to see so many empty seats. but as you say, the ticket prices are ridiculous, so for most people - poor students etc - it is their only real chance of seein matches at that level.

Nice thought PM, but with wall to wall TV these days, I am afraid the new generation of fans tend to look down on anything outside the Premiership.

How many times have people raised their eyebrows when you say that you support Hornchurch?

The next question is normally: "Don't you support a proper team?"

How very true. When I started college it's basically a fresh start so when anyone asked who I supported, I'd say Hornchurch. This followed laughing etc then the token "Don't you support a proper team?" question. [****!!****]$. It really is frustrating. Even get laughed at by Orient fans and their hardly high up...
