team next season

there have been several 'experts' on here recently telling us that we will need '6/7 new players next year to compete in our new league....

I have been thinking about this and talking to the powers that be and we don't agree...we think our current team plus maybe a couple of signings for the squad is more than good enough to take on the promotion bid for next season...

we think that the team bonding/building of this season and the spirit in the dressing room plus the success and the undoubted quality of our young players will give us the momentum we need to take the new league on...and make no mistake we are going to....

Couldn't agree more Unc. We won this league by a country mile which proves the quality of our squad is way above what is actually required to top the ESL. I doubt any Ryman One or SLE club could have won the ESL more convincingly than we did this season. Team spirit and self-belief is fundamental in order to achieve success. We have bucket loads so if it ain't broke don't fix it!

I totally agree we shouldnt split our squad as we seem to have a team thats well bonded and fights for each other...just one point tho (im not taking away anything from our fantastic season) we did win the league by a country mile but i dont think the ESL is not on par with other leagues in the same step of the pyramid ie the eastern counties such as AFC Sudbury and Soham Town (we have seen how good Soham are) so its very hard to gauge how good we actually are or could be (but we can only beat whats in front of you)

Very wise words Mr. Kimble. I am sure you are correct regarding where the ESL really sits in the pyramid. And yes, the game against Soham was a case in point. However, Enfield won the ESL last year with (only) 20 victories and 66 points. They are now sitting in second spot in SLE with a good chance of promotion either directly or via the play-offs. It is easy for us to believe we are invincible - which we truly are not. However I feel we should be very optimistic when it comes to anticipating how our present squad will perform next season in Ryman One.

The ETFC side is now very different from that which won the ESL. On Saturday only about 3 of the 14 who turned out were actually part of last year's squad. Who knows, maybe your squad'll be strong enough - I think the ETFC ESL squad would've finished mid-table in SLE.

Carsten Jancker's available up front after being released by Kaiserslautern, let's get him.

Hmmmmm...tricky one this.

I hope the core of the team stays together. Maybe some players wont fancy the step up. Has anyone given that a thought!!!

If we do sign players then they have to strengthen the team and not just add to squad numbers. Our younsters are more than capable of doing that...

Interesting Topic considering we still have one cup final to do "The Treble", as I am sure we would not want to upset the team balance.

some questions that we should consider,

1)who of our team wants to stay?

2)Who does JL want to stay?

3)Any ex urchins who want to come back, who JL wants?

apart from that, does it really matter as long as they show the committment that our squad have shown over the last year?

enrico...I mentioned so called 'experts' at the beginning of this thread..you have already had your say and......we don't agree...

we shall contest the league title next year with the players that we have in the 23 man squad which shall be inreased to 25....

you on the other hand can prove that your opinion is worthy of appearing on here by getting hullbridge promoted....

i think if we go in the southern league div 1 then i think maybe 4 extra signing will do a centre mid striker maybe wayne vaughan or declean perkins can do the job along side either holland or drake & maybe a centre back like chirs perkins from redbridge as hes good & another player i would like see is charlie bull return as hes done well for redbridge

brave decision and make sure the players are mentally tough to go through a harder season.sometimes, team spirit and a group of players that know each other very well can work miracles and doing better than bringing players that haven't got any feelings for the club and interested only at the dough.if you're gonna do as you preach,i can only take my hat off and applaude your decision
