After playing in sky blue and white stripes last week at Worthing, the team today were almost unrecognisable when they came out – until it was realised that this time it was the home team in the sky blue and white, with Urchins in their traditional red and white stripes.

No programme, no tannoy, no refreshments inside the ground, and a neatly sanded pitch. Ramblers fielded a much changed side from that of last season, with only a handful of players remaining, though their new look side has a lot of promise for the coming season, with their number three outstanding.

Urchins soon settled into a steady rather than a frantic rhythm and the new team looks good – very. A Danny Glozier corner was well held under the bar by McCartney, and Ross Wareham fired over the bar when put through by Greg Tiffin, and then Kris Lee nearly found the net with a first time swerve and shot, again from Tiffin’s pass, with McCartney in goal doing well to save. Burnham netted at the other end, but the flag was up for offside. Gary Cross, dominating the midfield, went close with a fine solo dribble, McCartney smothering the ball at this feet, and Cross again, with a shot on the turn, McCartney doing well to touch the ball over the bar. McCartney made it three fine saves in succession when he dived to turn a Lee header over the bar. Tiffin nearly scored with a header when he ran in onto a free kick and nodded the ball past McCartney, but it went inches wide. A good first half performance, with Gareth Thomas settling in well at right back, and with captain John Purdie in command whenever Ramblers threatened.

Changes were made in the second half, Rikki Burbridge and Billy Holland coming on, and looking far better and much sharper, whilst Jordan Bostock took over in the middle of the defence, with Michael Collier in goal and Adam Parker making his debut on the left side. The only goal of the game came on 51 minutes, with ADAM PARKER driving the ball hard into the net, after cutting in from the left. Burbridge went close with a hard shot on the turn, whilst Holland was first pulled down as the went through, Burbridge hitting the free kick just wide, and Holland again went clear, this time being pulled back for a somewhat questionable offside. At the other end it was Burbridge the rescue heading a goal bound shot out for a corner.

smallsy you love it !! did u play saturday mate ?

I thought we did well and a little bit surprised to see people saying they would have won by 9 or 10 . In fairness macca pulled off 3/4 superb saves in the first half but we had a goal disallowed which from my angle was dubious to say the least and in the second half i thought we were looking the stronger side for the last 25 minutes and had a couple of chances to level it. there were some positives for us to take out of it though and im happy about that .

Maxy im sure me and the young badger will make guest appearances over at the bridge at some point this season !

it was never that one sided and I thought you did well....yes we could and should have been a couple in front at least at half time but the goalie was on top form...you had the ball in the net twice...one a blatant 'hand of god' which gets the striker sent off in real play and the other was offside by a mile...good header tho.... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

thought we shaded it both halfs but a good performance from your team trenks and indeed much to take out of the game....brentwood and one or two others may think they have it sorted in the esl but on that performance you can challenge...

well done and good luck...
