BARKING FC-HULLBRIDGE SPORTS FC 0-1 (0-0) SCORERS: CHAY SPREADBOROUGH 89TH

This Saturday afternoon,Hullbridge Sports on the back of the midweek win against Aveley fc ,travelled to second placed Barking ,trying to get their third away league win .The team with the second best away record(goal conceded 4) were facing the team with the best home record(21 goals scored) and Barking as well were looking to establish the club all time’s record of consecutive wins(12).Barking were without Bradley Jones, Stuart Brown and Jon Higgs, while Hullbridge had defender Graham Herman, right winger Chris Brown and midfielders George Cheesewright and Paul Oakley missing from the starting eleven. Barking started really well and had the Hullbridge defence stretched to the limit trying to stop 25 goals Paul Carr and Wayne Vaughan, as well as pacy wingers Jason Henry and Remy Nelson. After 20 minutes of Barking pressure Hullbridge started to come more into the game and Gary Paterson forced Gavin King in the Barking goal to two very good saves. The first half ended with Wayne Vaughan coming off injured and the Barking crowd felling silent, like if they were foreseeing

a bad day for their beloved team. The second half started again with Barking pushing forward trying to unlock

A well focused Hullbridge defence and the Bridge boys keeping the Barking rearguard on their toes with some well orchestrated counter attacks. On a couple of them, Gavin King denied Gary Paterson again, the joy of a goal. When the game seemed to end with a stalemate, with a minute left on the clock, a good flicking header from Gary Paterson put left inside forward Chay Spreadborough through and although under pressure from 2 Barking defenders he managed to beat on rushing keeper King with a perfect timed toe-poke to send the frenzy Hullbridge fans and team mates home with a great away win.

A win achieved with great determination and a careful game plan, perfectly executed by the young Bridge boys helped by senior players Tomlinson,Daves ,Hughes and the player that once was said that “He could turn the game over with his magical left foot” 23 years old former Billericay and Southend Manor striker,Chay Spreadborough!.

A special mention goes to teenagers Kile Musson and Todd Mann that 12 months ago were playing park football and today at the age of 16 ½ sniffed out the threat of Barking wide players.18 years old Luke Williams

Nick Strachan ,Gary Paterson and rookie defender tyla Phillips worked tirelessly all over the pitch to counter a side that fielded quite few players that few months ago were playing ryman 1 football. Richard Mann in goal kept his first clean sheet of the season (the ninth for the team) and a part the bread and butter stuff didn’t have to make any important saves.
