Town - home form

The game against Wabby just about summed up our home form this season.

No direction.

Negative tactics.

No belief.

One striker.

Poor discipline.

Overall lack of attitude and "will" to win.

Give Wabby credit for having a go and although I do not believe they were the better team, they did not give up and were prepared to "have a go", so good luck to them.

Town on the other hand played "okay" first half with only Deane looking any sort of threat down the left wing. Perhaps a lucky pen but the guy did put his arm out to stop the low cross !

In the second half the Rudi sending off changed the entire flow of the game for Town and Jim decided to settle for a draw with the withdrawal of Foster and play another defencive midfielder. Why ?

We then played with Deane up front against 3 or 4 defenders.

Why go so negative ?

Why defend ?

Why give up the chance of all 3 points ?

Well it all backfired with Wabby scoring with 5 to go and that was it. All last weeks great work at Edgware gone in one swipe.

The home record is nothing short of a disgrace.

Won 5 drawn 4 = 19 points WON.

Drawn 4 and lost 5 = 23 points LOST

= UNACCEPTABLE for a team that "think" they can win promotion this season.

In my opinion Jim is far too negative and appears happy to give the game to the opposition rather than "have a go" and try to win. We would all be happy ( okay accept it ) if we lost but the team went down with some attitude and a fight.

As for the discipline record it is discusting.

Rudi off again for a stupid hack. Something needs to be done about this or we will find ourselves up before the FA.

How can a team be oh so good away and oh so poor at home ?

Jim needs to install some grit into the team or our home record will bring the Club down.

Its clearly not good is it, are the management team actually doing anything about it? It appears not.

What is obvious is they are not upto the standard required at this level, but we will have to wait till the season ends to see if things will change on the coaching team front.

On an estimated view I believe since we formed in 2001 we have played 119 league home games and have lost 38 and of those 24 have been lost at home.

In the last 3 seasons at this level (4) we have lost 27 league games and of those 16 have been lost at home.

That has to be one of the worst home records held by any club.

However losing only 14 away games out of a total of 118 league games played is amazing.

Why the hell should the management team have to come on to a public forum to explain anything?????

If you want to question anything go to the AGM and ask your questions there.

Would you have wanted to ask questions if we had won today???

To be fair if most of our fans started backing the team and not slagging the linesman off at every oppurtunity it might help, plus getting behind the team and not moaning after each miss placed pass would also help, sometimes even when we keep possesion people still moan..............have these 'fans' really got nothing better to do on a Saturday afternoon than come to a match and complain for 90 minutes, if you've nothing positive to say keep your mouth shut. How does anything negative help anyone??????? If you want to moan go shopping with the wife and moan at her for 90 minutes, and don't give me the argument of we pay our money we can say what we want, moaning does not help anybody. A reason our away form is better than our home is maybe to do with the fans, our players seem to have a lot of pressure taken off them because IMHO our fans are a lot more patient in away games than they are at home maybe this is because some of the more vocal moaners don't attend away matches.

Anyway Rant Over

Our discipline is a major problem...

This season we have tallied up 99 bookings and TEN sent off.

Rudi alone has 11 bookings and 2 sent off and, for the record his career with us equals 57 bookings ans 6 sendings off.

....and I will get round to doing some proper stats on our home and away records. I have been busy....

Steph,

Sorry don't agree.

I thought Valendia was trying to play too much "football" on a very wet and sticky surface, when some longer balls may have been a better option - thats what Wabby did and it worked !

Having said that of course....Rudi off in 5 mins ?

Perhaps Valendia would have been better.....we will never know !!

As for the other substitutions...just don't see where Jim is coming from most games.

One of the worst posts ever submitted on this forum.Whoever wrote it,obviously has no clue whatsoever about ETFC,its fans, tactics,or even football in general. The worry fact is that this person hiding behind a new user name,is probably connected to one of the players or the management team in some way.All i'll say is, that us 'moaners' will be supporting ETFC long long after you have quit the club.So in years to come whilst you are out shopping with your wife on a Saturday,we'll will still be standing in the rain passionately supporting OUR club.

Re the poor Home form... different research (and there has been a lot of research on it) indicates that:
*Bigger crowds don't measurably improve Home team performance and some research has shown that Home team player anxiety actually increases in Home games...particularly the Goalkeeper (3 times other players) as he has to shoulder the burden of being the last line of defence at Home;

At the same time bigger Home crowds can intimidate visiting teams but any research done on that effect has suggested that for every 10000 fans it is worth 0.1 of a goal to the Home team.

*Home crowds do influence referee/assistant referee decision making re penalties and the severity of cards issued and it is claimed that the Home Ground advantage is worth 0.3 goals a game to the Home team....at top level.

At the same time it was noted that some referees react adversely to Home crowds and will 'punish' the locals to stamp their authority on the game. A small vocal crowd in a small ground could 'rattle' the less skilled/experienced referees at lower league level.

The odd thing about Enfield Town's performance is their very good Away record.

Could be that:
Players don't feel the expectations to win are as high in Away games and as a result play a more relaxed , creative and expansive game AND/OR

Good Away record creates a false sense of security at Home with complacency taking over AND/OR

A poor Home record acts as an incentive for visiting teams and they play above themselves relative to other Away games where they go in accepting that a draw is a good result OR

My pet theory:
More local players means more passion and pride...be interesting to see whether teams with a greater local content have better Home records than teams that rely on imports.
How many locals play for ETFC?

Whatever it is, its psychological, and really comes down to management creating/instilling a belief that a team's Home ground is a fortress.

Greyhound trainer mates of mine give their dogs 'a kill' on the local track to raise the dogs 'enthusiasm'.
Maybe a couple of 'easy' friendlies at the start of the season could do the same for a football team. smile

Wondering if there is any relationship/pattern between Yellow Cards/Send offs and resultant suspensions and following Home games?

The team playing Away intimidated by fans of opposition club take more risks incurring Yellows that accumulate and put pressure on players in the next Home game.

Suspended players weaken their team by virtue of their unavailability at the next home game.

Then again if this was a factor it should affect all clubs.

A more intersting point that might be worth investigating is working out why some teams are more undisciplined than others.

Poor leadership...management/captaincy?

Putting players in situations that they cannot cope with so have to resort to fouls?

Failure of management to improve tackling skills of players?
