Foul (Play)

Red Spot

Recommended Posts

If what I am hearing is correct (johnnojudo might be able to confirm) but I have heard today that a main sewer running under Cove’s pitches burst over the weekend causing a large amount of effluent to be deposited over the playing surface. You won’t be surprised to learn that HSE and Thames Water won’t allow anyone on the pitch(s) until the damaged pipe has been repaired and the surface contamination has been cleared, cleaned and declared safe & fit for purpose.

I am sure there is a joke about JJ and his playing ability in there somewhere !!!!

Joking aside not good news for the club if confirmed :(

I can confirm that all of this is true. Reports are that no games at all will be played on Cove's pitch for a minimum of 3 weeks.

Very bad news for the club.

Are the club looking for alternatives venues JJ or switching games ?

In my experience these things take longer than 3 weeks but fingers crossed for you.

They asked us to switch the Allied Counties game to Krooner but we can't squeeze it in due to all the other home fixtures that week so we've had to settle for a postponement.

The two reserves games in the Suburban FL are both postponed and will have to be played at a later date. Can't switch because of 1st XI games

Johnno, would you like me to suggest a short term groundshare at Meadowbank? ;)

Seriously though, hope all is sorted soon.

Sounds rather expensive. De-contamination usually is !

Who's going to have to pay the costs, JJ ?

I liked your little 'quip', TRS !

The way Meadowbank looks at the moment and with the forecast issued last night for the next 72 hours, I would say the sea-gulls will have our pitch well into next week.

There was a committee meeting last night to discuss the situation. The 1st team and reserves trained at a different venue.

Its not just the footballing side (home games etc etc) that needs to be looked into. The clubs main source of income is the football - and with no football you have no income.....

I'm just guessing here so if anyone has any knowledge or experience then id be glad to hear your thoughts....

I would naturally assume that a cess pit is and should be maintained by the the water board for that area ie Thames Water for example...

Its not something that should be maintained by either the club or the houses in that area. So if damage is caused by a burst pipe from that cess pit then surely the water board or whoever maintains those pipes are responsible???

I hear a claim for a brand new laid pitch in may 2010 coming and to replace the 30,000 seater stand behind the goal!! :biglaugh:

Does anyone have any knowledge of an incident similar to this or that works in this field??

And YES! The pitch is now officially a Sh1t hole!! Orange netting surrounds the pitch with some big pumps and loads of work being done!

It certainly sounds like time for the Club to have a chat with a good solicitor, preferably one who specialises in land-cases.

Might save you £'s in the long run !

Johnno dont thnk youll play another game on that pitch all season after that, H&S just wont have it, if somebody cuts them self and starts rolling around in Shi t and gets infected somebody will get sued large, 2010-2011 will be the next time you play there, good luck though

Solid advice given, by Guvnor there. You must get Legal Advice for sure,as Water Companies are a devious bunch.More importantly are there no local clubs who would give you a groundshare,or maybe the C.C.L. could give you dispensation to play on an inferior, local park pitch, roped off, like few do in Div 1.Time for other Premier sides to give their support to Cove in their time of need.

brings me back to the money situation....

How does the club continue to pay all their bills if we have to play our home games away from home??

A groundshare is likely to cost money in renting the ground and pitch.....

How does the club continue to pay players wages??

You could also get your club brief, if you have one, to carefully check the wording on any insurance the club might have for such an eventuality.
