Saturday 18th January Fixtures

Went to the Windsor v Badshot Lea game yesterday. I have to say that what a remarkable job the Goulds did to get the game on, the pitch looked very good when you consider the wet weather we have had.

My following thoughts on the game are from a neutral with no detriment meant to player or club.

Firstly, no doubt Windsor deserved to win, but in my opinion, Badshot Lea losing was some of their own doing and helped Windsor gain the high scoreline.

I thought that Badshot Lea lacked fitness which could be to do with the long lay-off all clubs are experiencing from regular football at the moment.  Their 2 centre backs were poor on the day and it was their 6 who was at fault for Windsor first goal in mis-contolling or completely missing the ball, allowing Gould to run through and score with keeper to beat. I would say that BL right back was well out of position for any cover.

The 2nd goal a break away from the corner, BL had no central defensive cover. The left BL defender (couldn't see his number) should have stepped up to get Windsor player offside as he could not affect the situation being out too wide, moreover BL 6 lost his marker allowing him to run thru again with only keeper to beat.

3rd goal again could have been easily prevented by the BL keeper who made a mistake allowing to concede the corner, (maybe the defensive header could have been more direct towards the keeper ?) irrespective, from the corner the Windsor player attacked the ball unchallenged nor blocked for a free header.

4th goal, again BL at fault for losing possession in midfield and from thereon no-one back tracked Windsors 14 run allowing him a free run to superbly volley home.

5th goal the original cross was cut out, when the ball went out to the Windsor winger the BL defender (numer 3 I think) was too slow in shutting him down, allowing the cross for Windsor player in acres of space and completely unmarked tee himself up for a well taken overhead kick goal.

Last goal, like Windsors 3rd goal, the Windsor player attacked the ball unmarked nor challenged for a free header,

In my opinion, many of these goals could have been prevented with more defensive organisation.  But credit to Windsor, they were clinical in front of goal and could have had a few more.

A good game to watch, and thank you Windsor for the fine hospitality.  Nice talking and having a beer with Barry (Windsor supporter) after the game.......

That thought did cross my mind. It would have been a heck of a lot easier to write the Match Report for the Windsor website with the benefit of sight of TRS's excellent video beforehand!

LS not that I have to explain myself, but these were my notes made during the match for a colleague of mine who had an added interest in this game.  Just to add that BL were slow and sluggish, their lack of fitness was evident in the second half....lacked organisation and direction in my opinion....

Unlike you to name drop BAD GUY,does anyone at Windsor know this chap Barry,we could get a lead to Bad Guys identity.

Given BG's love of our groundkeeping staff I'm guessing the Barry in question may have been Ian Gould's brother who was definitely at the game Saturday so I shall ask some questions !
