The Buildbase FA Vase Sixth Round

Recommended Posts

Apparently this is the best route to take tomorrow if driving, Leighton Town were certainly lucky with the draw from a travelling perspective as they could have easily drawn Hebburn Town or Consett away

Hope the relevant section of the dreaded and much hated M25 doesn't suffer another major hold up, then.

According to the Corinthian Twitter page, and worryingly, a pitch inspection may be required but nothing confirmed as yet, of the three other Sixth Round ties, Atherstone Town v Consett is already off and they try again next Saturday, Hebburn Town v Plymouth Parkway seems fine:

Please keep an eye out for news on a potential pitch inspection in the morning. Nothing confirmed yet.

Corinthian v Leighton Town
Wroxham v Bitton (pitch inspection 8.00am)
Atherstone Town P Consett
Hebburn Town v Plymouth Parkway

Wroxham v Bitton (pitch inspection 8.00am)

A Non League paper preview on the Wroxham v Bitton tie which fortunately goes ahead following the early morning pitch inspection at the Yachtsmen's Trafford Park. Regular Bitton goalkeeper Rob Brown will be suspended this afternoon so thirty year old supremo Dan Langdon is forced to go between the sticks, his Father John is Chairman of the ToolStation Western League Premier Division outfit and his Mother Secretary:

No problems at Hebburn Town's quaint Energy Check Sports Ground, clearly Plymouth Parkway will already be on the road if the Devon Club didn't push the boat out and travel up last night to stay in the North East:

I gather that the Corinthian v Leighton Town tie will be broadcast live on Live Sports FM radio this afternoon however, worryingly, I believe there is a 10.00am pitch inspection at Gay Dawn Farm, fingers crossed that it will be given the go ahead after the build up this week and excitement:

Information for next Saturday's re-arranged tie, at least Leighton Town will know who they would face in the two legged Semi Final on 21 and 28 March before they take to the field at Gay Dawn Farm with the draw tomorrow at 2.00pm live on Talk Sport 2:

An anorak from another Forum was at this Sixth Round tie yesterday, should Leighton Town draw Bitton tomorrow and get through to the Semi Final next Saturday they will have to stifle Liam Bishop by the sounds of it:

FA Vase 6th Round - Wroxham 0 Bitton AFC 4 - Admission £7 - Programme £1 - Attendance either 978 or 997 depending where the figure is obtained from.
Surprised to be the first to comment on one of the five FA Vase and FA Trophy matches played. Good to hear that by 8.0 am, Wroxham had tweeted that the match had passed a morning inspection and the ground staff had certainly done a very good job. It was also very handy that the match took place under sunnyish skies although windy. No sign of the dreaded forecast rain.
Wroxham named a strong side with Grant Holt being the stand out name, with Simon Lappin also in the team as was Ollie Sutton, the keeper and captain, who is the son of Chris, who plied his trade up the road at Carrow Road for part of his career. No sign of Chris at the match, although Canaries past and present were here, including Todd Cantwell and Darren Huckerby. Bitton had recently signed Liam Bishop on loan and he scored a hat trick last week, and this week went one better with all four goals. His first came on 13 minutes after two efforts had been cleared off the line, with the ball coming back to Bishop who found the left corner of the net from the edge of the area. The second goal was going to be crucial and it came two minutes before the break with an effort from 20 yards that hit the underside of the bar, bounced down and over the line according to the linesman. One report has said that a video doing the rounds shows that the ball never crossed the goal line but I am yet to see this video. Things got worse for Wroxham before the half time oranges when Charlie Clarke fouled Alex Grimshaw and with both on the deck, the home midfielder appeared to kick out and he ended up getting a red card for his troubles.
The match was never going to be retrieved by Wroxham and it was Bishop who continued to take centre stage. Midway through the second half, he received the ball from a throw, cut into the area and found the far corner for an excellent finish and then just as the clock struck 90 minutes, he hit another cracking effort from just outside the penalty area into the top left corner.
Not too many visiting fans had made the long journey but those here enjoyed the celebrations with the players at the end, and for me, I’ll be taking advantage of this weeks rain to see Atherstone’s postponed tie with Consett, that is now set for next Saturday, weather permitting.

Yes, indeed, did you see that the Concord Rangers v Royston Town tie was called off at 2.00pm, disgusting!, this is from an anorak from another Forum, I bet it was a 'jobsworth' Referee with no consideration for 400 plus Royston Town fans who travelled by coach, car and train:

FA Trophy QF
Concord Rangers P-P Royston Town
Arrived about 1:35. Paid my money and went in. Wasn't even aware that there were still question marks about the pitch until Royston tweeted that the referee would look again at 2:00. He looked again, and called it off. Not a great issue for me, travelling from Southend, and the admission was refunded, but it was a different matter for the six coachloads of Royston fans.
Apparently the pitch was all fine until another downpour around 11:30, and it was a couple of areas in the corners and the centre that gave the ref concern.
Considered heading in the direction of Hornchurch, but in the end couldn't be bothered and went home.

Yeah, absolutely gutting for them and more than a little harsh. I saw some footage of the pitch and a few years ago there wouldn’t have even been a second thought about that game going ahead. Is there any insurance for the loss incurred until these situations? For clubs at that level it’ll be a big blow.
