Fleet Attendance

WOW Me and FF see eye to eye for once.

On October the 21st exactly two hundred years ago this very year Nelson led his troops and his Fleet into battle against the French in the battle of trafalger.

One hundred and ten years later war in europe was sparked off. It was the first off two wars to be fought under the name World War. Boys this time not men were sent to the front line to defend us from the tyranny of evil rule and control. We had scraped the bottem of the barrul to get anyone we could find to give us the right to live how we want to live in future generations. When you see a poppy does it make you sick?

And again only a quater of a century later boys again were taken from their mothers for the greatest need of all I have talked about before. To help those who stand up against Racial hatred and try to defend again against dictatorship tyranny and evil rule. How do you feel how you see the Nazi Swastika? Personnaly I feel sick but if thats what it takes for us to remind ourselves how lucky we all are to be here then thats what we have to do.

They were men who would not be ruled by any dictator so they decided to put there lives on the line and battle for their king and country, for their people and their selves. They fought under the brittish flag.

They fought for reasons that many of us take for granted nowdays freedom to do what we want to do and do it how we do it. THATS WHY I HAVE THE FLAG IN MY BEDROOM SO THAT EVERYTIME I LOOK AT IT I CAN REMEMBER THOSE THAT HAVE DIED TO SAVE ME.

Not like religion which is based on hearsay and things that might have happened and on fictional tales written by some drunk old prophet twelve hundred years ago, but things that definatly did happen BASED ON FACT.

It's also worth mentioning that when I am reminded that when I look at the Flag of St George I remember ALL those that have died to save the freedom of others. Brits, Americans Russians, Asains Europeans....... Whoever.

On the point made be GNFC Fan about Religion in my opinion many of the conflicts were sparked off because of religion. No religion = no war. But I realise its part of the freedom of others to practice which ever religion they please.

Totally agree!

It has to be said though, the chance of us actually getting any of the indian community of Gravesend to become Fleet fans is near impossible. Nearly all are Man Utd supporters for some strange reason that has confused me for years I've got a lot of indian friends and I've tried before to get some interested in the Fleet but they turn there nose up at the idea. 'Why would we want to support them, they're rubbish!' is the typical kind of response you get. It's sad to admit, but the thing is they're in fact like most of the towns population

Well put old son. If 90% of us wished to go back to our roots we should be flying the German flag.

We are English first having been born in England flying the Cross of St George, and British second flying the Union Flag, these two flags should not be denigrated by anyone whether born in the country or residing here. Forget the Liberal / PC nutters, and keep the flags flying and be proud to be the finest, most moderate. and understanding race of people in the world. If by being English my views put me into some sort racial compartment, Tough.

The best thing to do would be to ban religion completely.

How many religions in the world? They can't ALL be right!

Not matter what the religion, the 'holy book' in question is the definative book of fairytales - all completely made up by somebody in cloud cuckooland.

And Harry..... you'll be surprised at how much stuff we probably do have similar opinions on.

Have you seen that episode of South Park where its a new day in hell and the new intake (or earths sinners) have their induction period.

Theres a guy on stage talking to a large amount of people and he says something about them all being here for choosing the "wrong" religion.

A guy in the crowd ask's so which is the correct Religion.

The guy on stage answers "Moomins, Moomins were correct"

LOL.

And FF I have no doubt me and you are very similer but we are both head strong and when we do come into conflict we both want to make our selves heard.

Dire Straights once sang "Two men said they're Jesus, one of them must be wrong".

The problem with most religions is they all think they are the only "proper" one, and are intolerent of each other.

Bit like Fleet, Canvey, and Margit fans really.

But of course, we are always right!!!

Accrington Stanley have an interesting way of creating a bit of atmosphere...not a bad idea but i wouldn't have chosen the name "ultras"..

LOOKS CLASS, I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN A GROUP LIKE THIS ATTACHED TO THE FLEET. NO DESRESPECT TO OUR SUPPORTERS CLUB (IF WE HAVE ONE) BUT THIS KIND OF THING IS THE WAY FORWARD. I CAN ALMOST GUARANTEE THAT THIS KIND OF IDEA WOULD DEFFINATELY ATTRACT MORE SUPPORT FOR THE CLUB.

"WE HAVE A GOOD DECENT POINT FROM AN ANONYMOUS POSTER."

This will forever go down as a great day in this forums folklore. The world will never be the same again.

APOLOGIES, I AM AWARE OF THE TRUST, AND ALL THE GOOD WORK THEY PERFORM TO HELP THE CLUB – NO OFFENCE INTENDED.

THE ACCRINGTON ULTRAS LOOK GREAT AND I WOULD DEFFINATELY LIKE TO BE INVOLVED IF SOME OTHER FLEET SUPPORTERS DECIDED TO GO DOWN A SIMILAR ROAD.

THE IDEA OF DECORATING FLAGS AND BANNERS IS SOMETHING WHICH I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD HEAR BEING DISCUSSED ABOUT THE FLEET, AND ALTHOUGH I’M A LOYAL SUPPORTER AND ALWAYS WILL BE, I ALWAYS PIGEON HOLED THE CLUB AND THEIR SUPPORTERS AS BEING RATHER SET IN THEIR WAYS (AGAIN, NO OFFENCE INTENDED, BUT THAT’S HOW I SEE THINGS).

I KNOW MANY PEOPLE ON THESE FORUMS PROBABLY THINK THIS IS A RUBBISH IDEA BUT, TRUST ME, THIS IDEA WOULD MAKE GNFC FASHINABLE TO PEOPLE WHO HAVE NEVER SEEN THE CLUB IN THIS LIGHT.

FINALLY, EVEN IF THE OFFICIAL SUPPORTERS CLUB/TRUST, AIN’T KEEN ON THE IDEA, IF OTHER SUPPORTERS ARE THEN WE SHOULD GO ABOUT CREATING SOMETHING LIKE THIS.

Typical response I expected on these forums I'm afraid. ‘No marks’ more interested in spelling or typing with caps lock being on than anything else.

A few of you lot need to take a long hard look at yourselves and they way you envisage the club moving forward because if you think that the club are going to start attracting another thousand or so fans each week without giving consideration to what the fans which your trying to attract watch then your dreaming.

The harsh reality is however much you moan about not being able to attract young supporters away from Premiership clubs with this attitude you never will. Fair enough they are many young children watching the club, but how many of these will continue to watch the club when they are old enough to travel by themselves to Premiership clubs? Very few. There’s a distinct lack of supporters above the ages of eighteen and below 25, for this very reason. Although they may watch the Fleet occasionally, they probably don’t bother week in week out because as moist Premiership clubs have discovered, attracting fans each weeks takes more than the team on the pitch. Although I enjoy watching the Fleet, I’ve also had days when I’ve been bored out my head, and even known people leave at half-time before and go to the Plough instead.

OK here's my opinion / response;

To be honest - the idea is awful.

The people will just be branded by the outside world as 'oddball scarfers', a footballing equivalent of train-spotting anoraks. A laughing stock.

Do you really think a band of supporters with a few flags is going to be the inspiration to lure an extra thousand or more (yes, we need at least an extra thousand spectators to progress) to Stonebridge Road?

What do you mean by the outside world?

Not being funny FF, but I come into contact with a great many football supporters both in Gravesend and surrounding towns who consider ALL supporters of the Fleet as train spotting anoraks - some people on here may be aware of this and not care, to others this idea probably infuriates then (yes, it makes my blood boil), but I have to accept that that is the way the club is viewed by many locally and we have a struggle removing the tag.

I know my comments probably sound like a critisism but their not. I want the Fleet to be succesful and move onto the next level as much as anyone, and we have to accept that we ain't owned by Roman Abramovich and that any extra money is going to have to come through the turnstlyes.

I drink in the Boat in Riverview, and I can tell you that there are lads in there with nothing to do on a Saturday afternoon who'll spend £40 or £50 quid yeah, in the pub on a Saturday. All support different London teams, don't go to games together for this reason but basically want to watch football. And it ain't just the Boat, go in the Man of Kent, Prince of Orange, Campbell Arms and so on and you'll see the same scene.

In the programme produced by Crawley for the boxing day game mention was made of a special bus service which brought fans to and took them home from games at the Broadfield Stadium.

Isn't this an idea we can pick up on? There are large 'untapped' areas particularly to the east of Gravesend and I'm thinking specifically of Riverview Park where, if you haven't got your own transport it can be awkward to get to Stonebridge Road. From what I can remember it takes two buses at the very least.

Perhaps 'wicksy' can have a word with Red Route buses who rent space in the car park or Arriva to see if it's possible to set up an affordable supporters service. It may even be possible to find a sponsor for the route so that it becomes a free service.

I don't know, but I would guess that the Club also suffers from a lack of profile in the East of the Borough because the ground is in the West. Despite the excellent coverage in the Gravesend Reporter, had to get that in!

Would some kind of leaflet drop noting forthcoming fixtures not be a way forward? You would need some trustworthy distributors who wouldn't just dump their leaflets in the first bin or letter box they came to. Something for us Trust members or the Gravesend Reporter to become involved in perhaps?

Or you could just walk down to Valley Drive and get the 480 . Point taken though.

As for leaflets and posters advertising future games, this has been going on for quite a while on and off.
