Seeing as you're talking about buses, do you know how long the 480 bus takes to get to the ground? Just I've been getting lifts for the past few games, but can't tomorrow and must make my own way there.

About half an hour, traffic permitting.

Cheers mate. What do I say..? To Stonebridge Road? Or is there a different name given to the bus stop? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

The people will just be branded by the outside world as 'oddball scarfers', a footballing equivalent of train-spotting anoraks. A laughing stock.

Erm no. Couldn't disagree more.. Would chip in, if we need to raise cash.
Personally would go for old style soviet flag with Hammer and sickle with Fleet Reds across the middle. But thats my own choice , and don't suppose they will be many supporters in favour.
There especially good at away games, as they help us fill the empty spaces on the terraces.

For all you footballing flag fans, Eastbourne have a good one.
Flag of St. George with sandcastle in the middle. Hopefully they will bring it on the morrow.

Up the Fleet.. Let the broadchurch of the Fleet get broader.

Sorry, don't know what happened with the post above! Here's what I meant to post!

Its an easy mistake to make but that 'sandcastle' is actually our club logo - a representation of one of the many martello towers that are dotted along the coastline, a relic from the Napoleonic wars. I knew you'd be fascinated to know! ;-)

Very interesting conversation. If it’s of interest to anyone here a few points I’d like to make about my own situation.

I have been going to Stonebridge Road for about fifteen years now on and off since I was at school. Admittedly slightly more often now we have been promoted. We all support London teams in the Premiership or Division One, and try to watch them about five to ten times a season (usually in London derbies, cup games and so on), when we don’t we occasionally go to watch the Fleet if they are playing a decent team.

Although I support the Fleet, I am not involved in the fleet trust or supporters club because it’s not for me. I find the idea of a ‘fleet ultras’ style group interesting and when I mentioned it in the pub yesterday evening, a few of my mates said that it would make them feel more at home. If there were such a group in operation I would be willing to anonymously donate a couple of hundred pounds, and although my mates wouldn’t donate this much they’d probably donate a small amount each.

They also mentioned that there should be a small are of the ground where people would be encouraged to display flags and banners. Without the worry of blocking children or elderly supporters view of the match.

I think such a group would need to stay independent of the club if it were to work.

I wouldn’t envisage this sort of group running along similar lines to the trust anyway, and as I don’t contribute to the trust don’t feel I would be stepping on anyone toes so to speak.

People would be free to donate a small amount towards the purchasing of flags, banners and any other equipment or would feel free to buy their own flags separately – the choice would be theirs.

The main aim would be to attract new supporters to the Fleet in order to increase attendances, bring more money into the club via refreshments and the club bar, as well as trying to dispel the myth that all Fleet fans are train-spotting anoraks.

When there are sufficient numbers involved, travel arrangements could be discussed etc.

zzzzzzz

As the idea ain’t my suggestion I couldn't give a toss whether people peruse it or not.

Not being funny like, but all the time Fleet supporters opinions are stuck about twenty years in the past the club won’t progress. GNFC are in the best position they have been in for years, yet if we don’t capitalise on it, we could be looking back in five to ten years after relegation or two, with crowds of 400 and wonder where it all went wrong – if we’re lucky that is. How many supporters have lost their clubs altogether.

Not being funny Jimmy, but surely this forum is the place to try and discuss ways of increasing attendances and bringing money into the club?

I’ve been to one trust meeting in the past, listened to what people had to say, didn’t say anything myself and decided that the trust wasn’t for me and that I don’t have much in common with the type of supporters who travel on the official coach – that doesn’t mean that I don’t care about the club or that I don’t want to donate towards the club, just that I felt that certain types of supporters are being ignored by the trust.

I get the impression that certain people on here are trying to stifle freedom of speech on here for their own benefit sometimes.

And getting some flags is the answer?

...not just flags (although its more than we have now!!). I just think that in order to attract new supporters there needs to be a bit of an image change.

Like I said, I'm just telling you from the point of view of someone who occasionally watches fleet matches but isn't at every game. I've told you which ideas I like and dislike. If people choose to ignore it, then it's there choice but I don't see any others trying to suggest ideas just piss taking.

Gravesend & Northfleet is the areas team and not just a group of old farts being scared of change .
