Fleet Attendance

I agree to an extent. To me the pictures of Accrington make their fans look like extremists. But surely if the fleet made a show of having flags from other countries on-show, it may encourage people from other ethnic backgrounds that the fleet is a place where they can feel comfortable.

Whether we like it or not there is still an underlying racial element in Football, and putting up flags of ANY Nation might just bring the Cretins out from under their rocks and make grounds unsafe for the fans you are trying to attract!

The only flag that should fly at the fleet should be the Englis/British Flag. Not taking a racist stance in things, just a pro British one. We have no need to satisfy other countries peoples by flying their old flag so they come to the fleet.

They should be thankful they are here & consider themselves Britsh/English, irrespective of what war torn cr*p hole they came from.

If they don't like it they can go home.

No. The only flag that should fly at our ground is our club flag. We are not representing Great Britain or England. Let's keep nationalism out of this. However the Millwall poster (see icon )displays a lack of understanding in categorising all "immigrants as the same. I guess that GravesendIndian was born in Britain. There is nothing wrong in fitting in and still retaining cultural differences. Isn't that what British nationals do when they go and live in Spain etc?

Yes, why do you feel the need to have an England flag on you bedroom wall in the first place?

Surely, you should appreciate the goodness that people from other cultures have granted you and proudly display a flag which represents an ethnic minority community – After all, if it wasn’t for the enrichment that us ethnic minorities made to this land then you probably wouldn’t be in the situation that you’re in.

As already mentioned by someone, in the same way as British ex-pats go to Spain and embrace the culture? Rather than live in an English enclave and sit in their Union Jack pubs in Benidorm eating pie and mash...?

Nice to see the PR machine for attracting new fans is in full swing already

The anonymous poster has it right (shock horror!) - I don't see why any country's flag is appropriate to a club match.

What utter tosh. I'm English & will therefore proudly fly the flag of my nationality. Even more so when the European Championship or World Cup takes place - my England flag flies proudly on the outside of my house.

That doesn't make me a racist. It's those that have hijacked the nations' flag for their own agenda that are racist & comments like the one made by Gravesindian play straight into their hands.

It's about time certain people stopped using racism as an excuse to run our nation down.

Gravesindian - I feel that if anything, YOU are being the racist by demanding that an English person should display an ethnic flag. How can we ever have a multi-cultural society if the ethnic communities behave in this manner?

I would personally be disgusted to see another nations flag displayed at the ground and no i am not racist, if i went on holiday to spain, india, australia, wherever and went to a football match, i would not find it weird or strange or extremist or racist to see their own national flag flying. However if there was an english or union flag flying i would find that odd.

How many of the new houses being planned for construction are intended for people from ethnic minority backgrounds?

Why should any houses be "planned" for any one specific group of people? Surely there deserving people that do not come from an ethnic minority! In a free, democracy there should be no discrimination against anyone!

I am more than happy for people that live in Gravesend to come to the games! Whatever their background.

I’m not altogether sure that encouraging fans to bring flags to the Fleet similar to those shown in the picture would be a good idea – after all, the sight of a terrace full of British flags would probably act more as a deterrent for people from ethnic minority backgrounds, myself included.

What I think would be a wiser idea, would be if supporters were encouraged to decorate flags of the nations belonging to the fans that the fleet would like to attract. Say for example Indian, Jamaican or Romanian flags instead.

FFS! It is a club in England! A number of my friends are from one ethnic minority or other. They were born here and consider themselves English first! They would not have any problems with my or anyone else waving Union Flag or England flag at a game or anywhere else for that matter. Waving Indian, Jamaican or Romanian flags at the game would not suddenly make lots of Indian's, Jamaican's and Romanian's come to our matches!

Gravesindian has a canny knack of trying to stir up racism on this forum.

But he does also reminds us how we don't reach out into the local community ( black , white , yellow or green) to get them interested in the Fleet.

The smallest minority in the Borough are us.. Fleet fans..

Stand up , make a noise and be counted.

We should be reaching out to ALL of the community, not because they are Sikhs, Muslims Jews Arabs Or Martians. It should make no difference. If people live in Gravesend/Northfleet and want to support LOCAL soccer, then we should persuade them to try Fleet first.

In days of yore when I played against Guru Nanak, we often spoke about Indian players making the grade at Fleet.

I can only remember 1 triallist - Suki Bhatti, I think, and he never made it, despite being a brilliant local sunday league player.
