Barnet have their own sports shop in the high street.

Our own food stalls surely is a winner and could be looked at,lets face it the que for the home end one is a joke and people must give up waiting, and its food is crap .

Like i said ealier Asda must be a way to help, along with your ideas someone at the club should realy jump on some of our ideas, one of them must be of use.

The "Kids for free" idea needs more thought! imho going to the schools isn't the way. The way to get kids to the games is via the Sunday leagues that run in the area for school kids.

Giving them to schools is far too much of a scatter approach. Like it or not football is not as popular with kids as it used to be. At least if the tickets go to the kids who play football they are interested in the game.

If you were young a few seasons ago, Fleet boy, how long are you allowed to keep the 'boy' tag in your name...?

well we are thinking till about the time his voice breaks, only joking stu(aka Fleetboy)!!

On a more serious note, the centre of Gravesend is bare of advertising for the club. The only metion of the fleet that i see in town is on a sticker in a pub.

Considering gravesend town centre is the local Business area, mayby it would be more likly to attract publicity and therefore more fans if we increase the advertising there. mayby a few sticks here, a few posters there, bound to increase attendence.

looking on the hornchurch forum for my next opportunity to wind them up, i came across a thread from ian w saying the a4 poster for the next game was available for download. apparently he has a template for a poster, updates it for every game and people stick them at train stations etc, schools? places of work? could we not do something like that?

Well, I did notice a poster of forthcoming Fleet fixtures in the window of the newsagent opposite the Railway Tavern the other day - and now they're out of date anyway (it only mentioned the Exeter and Carlisle games).

 • 1 month later...

People seem to be forgetting why these new houses are being built.

How many of the new houses being planned for construction are intended for people from ethnic minority backgrounds?

Thankfully on this occasion the government have got something right and in their wisdom have decided that Gravesham should be at the forefront of a new culturally diverse community in Britain. As I’m sure you’ll all agree this can only be a good thing, but what it does mean is that many of the new nationalities pouring into the borough may not be familiar with the custom of watching their local football team play on a Saturday.

To add to the large Sikh population in Gravesend, there has also been an increase in eastern Europeans and Africans. But how many of these have we managed to attract to Stonebridge Road?

It’s okay planning how many new supporters we can expect as a result of new housing, but if we cannot reach out to the very same people who moved in Gravesend twenty years ago, how can we realistically expect to harness their support?

We have Taff Islam and Pops. Should attract Muslims and Eastern Europeans.

All, however are more than welcome at Stonebridge Road.

We have Irish, both North & South, Aussies, a French Mali, and a couple of quite good Brits as well.

And we have a bald manager.

We are a very diverse club.

I agree with you to some extent, but how do we "reach out to the very same people who moved into Gravesend twenty years ago"?

Yes the club needs to be targeting the local community more: youth clubs, schools etc, but being a part-time outfit, can we afford the time or money to do so?

Catch 22 situation really...

I say we go for creating a more 'big match' atmosphere.

It's been said time and time again - fill the ground with kids and get them hooked on watching The Fleet.

Tamworth away was a prime example - Tamworth did exactly as described above and had their biggest attendance of the season.

As to reaching into the Sikh community - join forces with Guru Nanak and promote an anti-racism promotion.

Get the local communities onside and lure them all down to Stonebridge Road.

Things our ex-chief exec should have been doing.

I’m not altogether sure that encouraging fans to bring flags to the Fleet similar to those shown in the picture would be a good idea – after all, the sight of a terrace full of British flags would probably act more as a deterrent for people from ethnic minority backgrounds, myself included.

What I think would be a wiser idea, would be if supporters were encouraged to decorate flags of the nations belonging to the fans that the fleet would like to attract. Say for example Indian, Jamaican or Romanian flags instead.
