Been out all day, but as far as I know, Bertie is still a Hornchurch player, and until they decide to release or sell him, he can't go anywhere.

I was told (see original post), that he was now a free agent....And that we had made an offer...

AS I understand it, and I’m not sure that I do any more, Bertie was called to a meeting at Hornchurch FC where he, and all the players were told to go and find new clubs, and they were all to be released.

I think I read the same in the NLP, and I am aware that most of the then team at Hornchurch have been released and moved on.

Berties understanding was the same!

SO, thinking that he was a free agent we made him an offer.

Monday we were informed by Hornchurch that Bertie is their player, and he is on loan to us and that’s where he will stay, until his loan period is up....... Keeping up so far?

Now Bertie has not been paid, and as far as I’m aware there are insufficient funds to pay him. But rules is rules.

Hornchurch could of course recall him if they chose to do so, and release him.

Bertie is not a happy chappie, and quite understandably is refusing to play.

Which will result in him being fined......but hold on,... he's not being paid!

Another problem arises with this whole sorry mess, any club who speaks with Bertie, could be deemed to be making an illegal approach.

So to re-cap, if Hornchurch allowed it, Bertie could be released, and he could move on and earn a crust.

But until then, or the FA step in. he is their player on loan to us.

How many points deduction does an illegal approach carry then ? (only joking)

sounds a totally pathetic situation.

Steady Gazza, lets not start talking sense on here - agreeing with each other and all that. You're still a suburb of Basildon and we're still carrot crunching Boretree.

But lets hope for the sake of Bertie and his family that he can be allowed to earn a living. Sometimes, some people forget that it's only a game!

As much as I like Bertie, his attitude is almost a re run of when we made enquiries earlier this season, when, cash was the most important thing on his mind. Fair enough, nowt wrong with that but his performances since East Preston haven't exactly set New Lodge alight.

I must say, I thought he was happy with us and felt that he wanted to be part of our set up as he could see us going places. Still, the big dollar is always an attraction, although a short sighted one at times.

I wish him all the best in his hunt for a salary he thinks is beffiting his talent.

In answer to Dave W. I spoke to Justin last night and he confirmed that he is looking a two players - a winger and a striker. he hopes to have them by the time we play Hampton.

I can't say I wish him all the best...

In my view he has bottled it. He turned up, scored a few goals, everything rosy, him and Hockers looking great. Hockers gets injured, and now he has to step up to the plate and deliver as the senior striker (by far) in our squad, and has palpably failed. Doesn't fancy the pressure of the situation any more so will [****!!****] off to the highest bidder (which is his prerogative of course).

Hopefully this means we can go and get a "proper" centre forward now.
