NEWS FROM THE CLUB ON DANNY AND BERTIE

Deep in the depths of the Bat Cave the phone rings..."TC here, got some news for the forum, can you post?"...Well, of course I would oblige...

Danny Hockton:

Danny had a scan on his injured knee this wek and the results were disappointing.

He has damaged his cruciate ligament and requires surgery. It will be a few weeks before that can happen and the recovery period is several months.

At this stage we are resigning ourselves to loosing him all season.

Bertie Brayley:

Due to the financial problems at Hornchurch, Bertie has become a free agent.

We have reviewed the situation, calculated his worth to us, and made him a written offer. The offer will remain open untill noon Tuesday, after which it will be withdrawn.

In my opinion, with the right coaching Bertie could move up the divisions.

Lets hope he dosn't do a Gavin

The Future:

We have over the past few weeks been watching and monitoring the progress of a number of young players, some of which may be approached in order to strengthen our current squad.

Of course its desperately disappointing about Danny. He is prolific at this level and it will be a tough tough job to replace him but that's football and we need move on (until he's fit of course)

With regard to Bertie, he is a talented player and it would be good to have him in the squad. However we do have other players who in my view are capable of playing the "second striker" role in Cousins and Stowe both of whom I am sure will start banging in the goals soon. With Hockers out, if Bertie chooses to go elsewhere, perhaps we could use the released funds to bring in more of a line-leader. A few names in the frame Eugene Ofori at Hendon (again managerless), Kris Lee (can't get a game at Purfleet) and Craig McAllister (ditto Stevengae) who have all been prolific at our level in the past.

All the best to Hockers, keep your chin up mate...

Devastated to hear about Hockton, but once he has recovered I am sure he will be just as prolific next season and I hope the surgery and recovery go well for him. I hope we can keep Bertie as he seems to be the only forward we've got at the moment capable of being as prolific as Danny.

It will be interesting to see who the new faces are. Whatever happens I'm sure we will be there or there abouts at the end of the season.

Very much echo the above comments. Sad news about Danny, i wish him all the best for his op and recovery. I would very much like Bertie to sign as i think hes an excellent talent. Cousins impressed me yesterday up front, so id be more than happy with him and Bertie up front, with Stowe and Ross as more than adequate back up

I know some City supporters spoke to the new city manager on Saturday and he said he's ofered Bertie a deal, however it's less than the deal you've offered him so it'll be interesting to see where he goes. Is he in it for the cash or to play at a higher level, interesting!

PS - I dind't speak to him I was in Amsterdam

It's interesting to see so many people concerned with Berties Salary... quoting figures as well.

What's the purpose of that?

If he goes to back to his good friend George, He will be on £....... 52 weeks of the year.....

.....And if he goes to Heybridge he will be getting more than the Iron offered.

Afternoon TC, trust you are well - bad luck on Saturday's result, but a good gate and, I'm told, that your lads played well. You can now concentrate on a League & Trophy double!

Anyway, back to the thread, I hope young Bertie plays his cards right with his situation at Hornchurch. My understanding of the new 'Football Creditor' rules are that he will either have to have his contract honoured or settled - is that your take on it too?

As for us poor old Iron folk, we are not, alas, in a position to offer him £500 a week, nor do we believe any Ryman League player to be worth that amount. Just out of interest TC, if you were Bertie, who would you commit to?

Morning Simon, with regard to your offer my observations are as follows:

1. My understanding is that Bertie is not training full-time and wants to obtain other employment to compliment being a part-time player (unless he can maintain his Hornchurch salary - which is unlikely!).

2. Crowds vary, but Heybridge do attract decent gates when doing well.

3. That is very much the 'long-game' and, knowing Bertie, I would imagine he's more interested in this season - but you could try it out on him ...

Good luck!

From the stories I've heard about Bertie from his time at Canvey would suggest he is not purely motivated by money. Guess someone will inform us soon enough whether hes signed or not or whether our offer has been extended
