Danny Hockton

Recommended Posts

I think it's a big blow because he's a proven goalscorer and our strikers haven't scored enough this season. Two and a half years at one club is pretty loyal at this level I think. I'm sure with the depth of knowledge between the management they will find a more than adequate replacement.

Cookie, I would say you have a point there, as I think Hockers was one of justins signings.

Personally I would miss the Hockton pre injury but not the current one. What has he really done this season? Margate are getting a reputation more than a quality player. He doesnt look sharp and he has lost a little bit of pace. A lot of this is probably down to the injury but his body language suggests he has been unhappy. If he is still struggling with the injury but can get back to the hockers of old then they will have a great player.

Out of interest did Margate pay us a fee for him? im assuming they did if he was a contracted player.

I dont see this as a bad thing to happen to the club so long as we can get a couple of new forwards in and bolster the attack which is where we have looked weak all season.

As for the loyalty thing, since when has that been applicable in football?

Paul...in your opinion, a non contracted player breaks a leg whilst playing for a club, should that club continue to pay him?

Nowt to do with Danny btw, good luck to him, he made a choice which He thought was right for him.

...and yes we did get a fee

Hope you don't mind Tc, but can I answer the question you set Paul.
Yes I think a club, should pay a player when he is injured if he is on contract.
He still has a mortgage to pay and bills to meet.
Hope you didn't mind, us butting in.

TC, tricky question. I would say it would depend on the player in question and the circumstances. I dont think there is a correct answer to this as there are so many things to take into account such as why was the player non contracted, was he offered a contract but chose to be non contract.

Lets use hockers as an example, if he was non contract and the club had carried on paying him during his layoff only for him to then move on to another club soon after returning then based on this i would say a club shouldnt pay a non contracted player to avoid this type of thing happening but to assist the player in his rehab. Having said that if I were in our clubs shoes and hockers had been non contract i would have paid him as he was a quality player and i would have wanted to keep him and by paying him would have shown the clubs commitment but then you are relying on the player replicating this commitment.

TC, Im assuming the question you ask is based on the loyalty thing right? whats your opinion on this one?

Its a good question, what does everyone else think?

If a player is non contract he has the right to leave the club at his own request whenever he wants. he is not a full time employee on the same basis as a contract player who can only move with the agreement of both parties and a probable fee ( as payment for breaking the contract)therefore why should he receive the same benefits as that contract player. The payment during injury unless previosly agreed as a condition of signing is discretionary and should remain so.

Yes but it is fun listening and reading all the speculation. I'm amazed by the conversations about who earns what and why did someone leave, even when the club has moved into a stronger position...

People appear to more concerned about absent "friends"
