Stambridge, from the Essex Olympian League, looked the equal of many Essex Senior League sides, and gave Urchins a few worrying moments with their quick passing and clever interplay in their build up. It was not until 30 minutes that Urchins began to gain the ascendancy, when Danny Cowley held off two challenges, ran through the middle and hit the ball low past the visiting keeper, the goal being prevented by a quick thinking defender who had raced back to cover and he managed to hook the ball out for a corner. Matt Hayes promptly lobbed the ball back into the middle and the keeper managed to clutch the ball underneath the bar.

Billy Drake went close with an overhead kick which beat the keeper but drifted wide, whilst Hayes went close with a long range shot which the goalkeeper did well to save. A neat exchange of passes between Springer and Tiffin ended with Springer goalbound shot being deflected off the line for a corner and another Springer shot went inches wide of the post.

Urchins stepped up the pace in the second half, with Nicky Cowley and Luke Longman getting a strong grip in midfield, though the only goal came from LEE SPRINGER following Nicky Cowley’s through pass to Billy Drake, whose first time shot was cleared off the line, Springer netting at the second attempt, his first shot also being cleared off the line. On 62 minutes Longman twice went close, and Danny Heale’s appearance saw him three times inside five minutes set up scoring chances.

In defence there were good performances from Nathan Philip and Gareth Thomas, whilst Darren Brewer looked steady at left back and made some good runs upfield.

I believe John Heffer is Steve Heffer's brother(formerly of Daggers and currently at Thurrock)

Scouse, aka Steve Butterworth was getting some light hearted banter off my mate who used to work with him. Looks a decent player who could play at a higher level.

has to be done otherwise i'd not have been able to claim the victory.

remember when scotland 'won' against estonia? had to fly all that way, get changed, and kick off before the game was abandoned and they were awarded the match because the home team literally didn't turn up.

WE'RE THE EASTSIDE OF THE BRIDGE!

Wasn't that not played in Cyprus? Maybe the Estonians couldn't afford the plane fare.

the initial decision to award the plucky scots a 3-0 win was overturned and the match was replayed on a neutral venue, i think.

think it ended up 0-0 as well.
