Enfield Council's Bulls Cross decision is...

Duke of York

NO...

From the THFC website...

"Despite the Planning Officer and the Mayor Of London's recommendation to approve our plans, Enfield Council has refused the Club planning permission for our proposed new training centre. The Club will now consider its next step which may include an appeal.

Sporting Director Damien Comolli said: “We are not only disappointed, we are also surprised. Whilst we always appreciated the difficulties of obtaining planning permission on green belt land, the Planning Officer had recommended our proposal. We shall review the reasons cited and determine our next cause of action.”

A bit more from the THFC website

The Club would like to thank the many Enfield residents and supporters and who took the time to register their support for our planning application for a proposed new training ground.

It was quite clear from the Officer’s report exactly how much support, particularly locally, there was for our project.

However, last night, despite a recommendation from the Borough’s Planning Officers and the Mayor of London, Enfield Council’s Planning Committee voted against the application

Sporting Director Damien Comolli said, “We were always aware of the inherent difficulties in seeking planning within the Metropolitan Green Belt. Over the next few weeks, the Club will examine the reasons for the decision and determine the options available to us. We will of course keep you fully up-to-date with any progress and in the meantime, thank you all once again for your terrific support.”

Yep.

Enfield council have been more than happy to turn Enfield into a sh*thole over the last decade. And have been quite happy to sell their soul to every developer and Fast food/retail outlet going.Concreting over great areas of the borough in the process.(As we speak, they are engaged in changing the centre of Enfield from a Market town, into a 'Brent cross/Wood Green' style urban eyesore).

It seems the only thing they want to keep out of the borough ,is top flight sport. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/shrug.gif" alt="" />

The lack of symmetery with the SOuthbury Road decision is remarkable.

Let's hope that Spurs pursue an Appeal. Costs of £250k has to be better than starting from scratch elsewhere. I suspect that's what the Council wants. Either it is vindicated on Appeal, or its the fault of the nasty Planning Inspector. A no lose situation.

Isn't the real issue though that by reaching this decision, the land at both Bulls Cross and QEII is now 'in play' for developers. Having proved there are no bats or anything else there, the door's been opened for those lovely people from Fairview, etc. to have a punt at it. And with the long term future of the QEII less certain than it was last week, that's up for grabs, too!

And a delay of at least a year in freeing up space at Brimsdown, there are other losers as well. That's a lot of time into the remaining lease period!

SoB, You are a bit off the mark with your post.

The decision does not open any doors fro Fairview or the likes.

The land for the application is within Green Belt and is therefore protected in terms of residential development. There are possibilities of development for community facilities or sprot in Green Belt.

The Officers support of the applicaton will assist THFC in their Appeal, should they go down that route, which you would expect they will.

The QEII Stadium is, I believe, covered by a Listed Building condition to stop demolition and re-development ( housing ) and if we went there certain parts of the building would have to remain.

If THFC Appeal I would expect a decision in 9 months.

The only thing at the Qe2 that needs to remain,is the changingroom/Cafe block.I'm sure Laings/Fairfields or even the David Lloyd centre will be quite happy to incorperate the block into their designs.

Without Spurs,(or much more improbably) Enfield Council funding a new ground at Qe2.We have no chance of getting it.

What exactly do Enfield council have against top class sport?? At Southbury rd they rejected plans by Sarancens/EFC for a 20,000 capacity stadium,on the basis that it would encrouch 25 meteres into the playing fields. Then a few years later, they approve a plan for housing/school redevelopment, that saw three times as much playing field space eaten up.

I'd like to know what role Josie O'ware is having in all these decisions. She seems right at the forefront in opposing any sporting projects, but seems to go missing when housing and retail companies put in planning applications.

Just the mention of that name sends my blood pressure up, interfering old biddy, just what is it she does that makes the council jump?

ITS ALWAYS THE WAY WITH PEOPLE LIKE MRS O'W . I REMEMBER HER BEING A THORN IN OUR SIDE MANY TIMES IN THE PAST , IT JUST MAKES YOU WONDER WHY SHE HATES US SO MUCH. I guess its the noise of football traffic thats the forefront of the argument once a fortnight on average ,But when you see 200-300 houses and flats plonked on the site you have this traffic 24-7, 7 days a week 52 weeks of the year and yet thats O K ??? Mrs O'W you need to analise your statistics more closely.

Frankly I think that that particular lady got a taste for "power" and fame (albeit limited!) and being in the limelight, the centre of attention and able to rant to an audience through the playing fields fiasco. She consequently popped up as a candidate for the UKIP and then as an independent (mercifully although prdictably failing miserably). She was also vocal in the anti-metric campaign.

That's my bit of amateur psycho-analysis!
