We knew it wasnt going to be a straight forward end to season, its going to be very exciting finish I feel. We had to lose at some point, October was the last league defeat. It will be a good one over at your place I feel.

If you lot were real sports you'd do the corinthian thing and lose to Needham and draw next Saturday so long as we beat Abbey and Cheshunt, then we can have a decider at our place, C'mon.

Received a message on twitter from Needham Market thanking our fans for contributing to the bucket collection at the ground, a nice touch from them.

What was the Team / Squad today ?

Were Jey and Liam on the bench ?

Imber, Lockie, Barber, McKay, Kirby, Ewang, Matata, Hall, Wallace, Hammatt, Campbell

used subs: Siva (Matata), Johnston (Hammatt), Kendall (Hall)

unused: Osei, Hope

Phrases such as "lost the plot" and "panic" were heard before kick off.

Decent turn out of Town support at Needham.

Got to the ground and a few puzzled looks on Town faces. Top goalscorer on bench (Hope), arguably most creative wide man on bench (Osei), arguably most creative midfielder on bench (Johnson), arguably most consistent deadball taker on the bench (Siva) and arguably our most consistent centre half this season on the bench (Kendall).

39 y/o Bryan Hammatt leading the line?

Or course, Newing has lost the plot. We are on our way to another defeat...

What do we get? Probably our most committed, determined, disciplined and professional display of the season, so much work when we didn't have the ball, some great passing and movement when we did.

Needham are a decent side, very well organised and yet we were well on top and got the goal our play deserved from Hammatt's header after an excellent Hall cross. We then started to sit back a bit but some blood and guts defending meant Imber didn't have much work to do at all.

Heart warming performance and proof, if necessary, that we should trust the manager ;) All we need now is for Leiston to lose at Needham, us to win all our remaining games and we're champions. Easy.

Needham Market (0) 0

Enfield Town (0) 1 Hammatt 53

Attendance 361

A changed Enfield side started the game lively with Adam Wallace leading the line and linking up with both Tyler Campbell and Jordan Lockie well enough. Mark Kirby had an early half shot from a Rudi Hall corner. But Needham were causing problems as well, and Kirby headed clear from a corner before Noel Imber denied Bradley Barber from a free kick. The pressure on both sides showed with a flare up following a foul on Campbell. When the dust settled Rudi Hall was only denied by a fine save from Needham keeper Liam Jones who palmed away the free kick. A good run down the right from Deakan Napier needed a good challenge from Enfield’s Danny Barber to snuff out the danger. Danny Thrower then fired over for Needham, before a quick turn in the box saw Enfield’s Wallace only denied by a last ditch tackle from Darcy D’eath. Napier and Thrower continued to cause problems for Enfield on the right, Thrower again firing over before Napier came closest to opening the scoring when his shot from wide drifted just past the post. Wallace laid the ball off to Campbell who drew a good save from Jones, then Enfield turned up the pressure with a series of corners, but Needham defended them well. A nudge on Wallace in the box earned nothing, and a nod into the danger zone from Bryan Hammatt was easily cleared. A header from Walid Matata was held under the bar by Jones as he worked his way towards the man of the match award. Enfield finished the half with a move that saw repeated attempts to hit the back of the net from McKay and, Wallace and eventually Kirby shooting over.

Both sides kept up the tempo in the second half but the better chances fell to Enfield early on. Hammatt was pushed further forward and it paid dividends. First Campbell centred for Hammatt to bring the ball down and fire onto the bar. Kirby then had a header cleared off the line by Rhys Barber. Fired up, Campbell ran straight at goal, only to be stopped on the edge of the box. Enfield finally struck and it was strictly old school. Wallace played the ball back for Hall who picked out Hammatt unmarked in the box. There was never any doubt as he crashed his header clear of Jones into the back of the net. Campbell tested Jones minutes later but the keeper got down well. Kirby again came close heading over a Lockie free kick, but substitutions gave Needham an extra edge and they forced Enfield onto the back foot more and more. Danny Bloomfield glanced the ball past McKay but wide of the goal. Angelo Harrop picked out D’eath only for Imber to palm behind and McKay then cleared a shot following the corner. Kirby, Hall and McKay then scrambled to clear and Danny Barber finished the escape heading away an effort from Sam Newson as Enfield defended deeper and deeper. Rhys Barber should have done better when he put a free header over the bar and Harrop had a shot charged down by Michael Ewang. Enfield had a chance to relieve the pressure with a second goal from a Rudi Hall corner, but Rhys Barber cleared Kirby’s header off the line. Needham threatened right to the end, Imber punching clear from Newson at close range and a late chance finding the side netting.
