My Foreign Club

Mine is a Swedish Club called GAIS, based in Gothenburg.

 

My mate used to visit his bird there.

One year he went to a game and brought me back a shirt.

So, it ended up as my adopted team.

 

Won the Intertoto cup in 1990.

More successful than Orient.

 

I also look for results of French side Lorient for obvious reasons.

Sofia, my greek teacher at Gaynes night classes for two years came from Thessaloniki and eventually went back a few years ago, bet she regrets that now.

Lovely girl and four of us visited her for a short break. She supported PAOK so that's my reason for following them.

And my brother lives in Adelaide and "barracks" for Port Adelaide in the AFL.

I was once wearing my Orient (Squares) shirt in a pub in the West End.

When i came back from the Loo, a tourist had put a pint behind the bar for me as he thought it was Croatian.

I did follow the fortunes of Mooroolbark from Victoria in the days when we got aussie soccer fixtures on the football pools in the summer.

They must have been of a dire standard and you'd get results like 12-0 every week..

 

We did get to see Sofia's flat in Salonica, I do have a photo of the contents of her fridge, dunno why. Oh and I managed to break her toilet flush, no bog paper in the basket in her flat, dead posh.

I don't really follow foreign clubs, I prefer national teams so I support the clubs with players from my favourite national teams. So,

 

Bayern Munich (over half the expected starters, and I play for them!)

Real Madrid (Ozil and Khedira)

Lazio (Klose)

 

Though I'm sticking with City despite Arsenal adding Podolski to Mertesacker (and having 7 Tears Boy Arteta)

 

In Ukraine, dunno which team, again just like the national team

 

I guess Celtic since it's me old man's team
