Enfield Town v Wingate & Finchley

Today Town welcome our good friends and rivals Wingate & Finchley to the QE2 as we look to put in another good performance and secure three much needed points.

Few Towners will have forgotten the epic battles we had with Wingate & Finchley last season, particularly the match at Summers Lane, where we lost Noel Imber through injury, but secured a vital point in our fight against relegation. Wingate & Finchley were subsequently relegated, but earned a reprieve when Worksop Town pulled out of the Southern League, and they were awarded a place back in the RPL.

Matches against our near neighbours are always exciting, highly competitive, close encounters. This afternoon will be no exception.

Town need to make home advantage count. Wingate & Finchley have made a good start to the new season and currently lie sixth in the RPL with 10 points from five matches. Both clubs need the points, so this is definitely a match not to miss.

Very best of luck to George and the lads. Let's show what we are really capable of this afternoon.

Full Time:

Enfield Town 2 - 3 Wingate & Finchley

Despite a spirited second half revival, Town left themselves too much to do and suffered another very disappointing result, and no points from the Bank holiday weekend. I can picture many disgruntled Towners leaving the QE2, wondering where it is all going so badly wrong. What are your thoughts on todays match and what needs to be done to put things right??

Very poor first half..Didn't shut Wingate down..Didn't pass well.Lacked belief.

Second half was much better. The three subs played well.Cousins took his goals well, but was carrying an injury again!.Still not totally convinced ..Thought Hope was unlucky to go off rather than Cousins, but maybe the two goals proved George correct

Does anyone know why George was sent off at half-time?

We need to play the full 90 minutes the way we played the last 20 minutes.

We still haven't found a settled formation or style of play this season.

So what if Cousins was carrying an injury? 2 goals from a forward in one match - what more do you want? If he was/is injured, just think what he can do if fully fit. And you answered your own question about who should have been substituted. Perhaps best to leave the team management to the manager?

Also, playing Hope in midfield and then subbing him at half-time, could now possibly see our only fit forward leave the club ,whilst our other forward could now possibly be out injured. Not saying it was a wrong decision, just saying it was a brave decision by George. But i agree something needed to be done at half -time,and the subs did turn the game, helped no doubt by one of Georges half-time rollockings.

Having watched from the sidelines over the past year or so of George's reign, I have commented on a couple of occasions at his aggressive and poor touch line manner. Of course these may just be rumours but if true the club clearly have no choice but to dismiss him. Failure to do so would put our great family club in an awful light. If it's not true then great but we need to know why he was sent off.

As for the match, again a lack of ideas, just long hopeful balls and shoddy at the back.
