Enfield Town v St Albans

Too windy, pitch too bobbly, too many nerves, too defensive, bar queues... too long, two games to go to stay in non-league Stage two.

Points needed... 1.

What a rubbish game of football that was, worst game I've seen in a while, disappointing when we could have made ourselves safe in front of a big crowd. We clung on throughout the match, never looked comfortable, booting the ball away as far as possible like school boys. Cian was our stand out player for me and I thought Billy had a poor game. Any way a point will have to do and as long as Salisbury and St Albans don't win their remainders we are fine as don't know how we get another point from Boreham or Worthing.

Scrappy game I thought the only team trying to play football  was St Albans we were all huff and puff it’s a shame we didn’t put on a better performance in front of a large crowd

Totally agree on all counts. I just wonder how many of the casual supporters would come back to watch that standard of football.

Occasion got to the players. Given how they've handled the last few weeks I expected better of them today. Granted, it shows resilience to play that badly and still not get beaten. On another day we may even have won it. Still, when composure was required we showed a complete lack of it. Thought Billy and Lennon really struggled today. Cian and Joe were our best players. No more points for us from here on, so best hope its enough - otherwise our goal difference will be consigning us back to Step 3.

Yeah...lovely to see such a crowd, but, it was a bit like being at Dulish Shamlet...shit loads of people there on a beano because it was a day off, no interest in ETFC whatsoever 😬😬😬

The team and the supporters were just not on it today. Fans tense. Players tense. Rock hard pitch and bouncy ball but poor quality football from us today. All the players worked hard but just hoofing it up in air at home against a fellow bottom of the table team was not good. Entertainment levels were low. Maybe the team can be forgiven after such a great run to get us in this position. Only our on-loan striker looked a threat.

Thought St Albans played the better football overall and should have edged it. We could do worse that sign their skinny left winger if they go down. He looked useful.

Ref had a poor game. Missed constant shirt pulling and several blatant fouls. Also looked like he bottled giving Enfield Town a penalty late on.

Overall it was probably enough to secure safety in this league but an anti-climatic air hung over the ground today.

Edited by lovely stuff

Seasonal fans.....only out when there is a big impact game on the line.

Think we invited them on to us way too much and we also gave way too much respect to their 40 who caused us so many problems first half and with some changes was a bit quieter 2nd half.

Tactically, ball spent way too long either through to their keeper, onto the track or off for a goal kick.   Was crying out for some more quality and someone to put their foot on it and allow us to build the play up better.

that said, we had two chances first half with Jack where he should have done better and Cian narrowly missed the far post.

Penalty incident 2nd half would have been lovely if we could have found the net and on another day Jack could have had a hat trick with his 2nd half shot.

Unfortunately both our wingers had quiet games today when we needed them most, despite our goal coming from a cut back cross which their defender seemed to struggle with.

1 point gained today and we'd much rather be in our position than St Albans.....yes we have tough games coming up and City have to win both theirs to stand a chance.    The fact they have Truro away last game could be key as both they and Worthing will be battling for top spot with Truro only a point behind them.

Wish we had a bit more quality today as we really needed some of that play we've had in the last few games and St Albans left themselves much shorter at the back on a number of occasions but we couldn't find the final ball.

Exciting last two games for sure.

A point was not enough but in the circumstances (10th game without a loss - how much was hanging off this one match) I will take it. Mind you I was not happy with the opening sentence of the Chelmsford report - “Without tempting fate, we are almost there”. We are not. There is a host of options for the last two games, some post, some negative. With our goal difference we need to take matters into our own hands and at least get a draw against Borehamwood. Then we won’t have to make unnecessary comments like last week.

Mondays games might solve the problem in our favour. If not, it’s sweaty hands next Saturday.

By the way was the crowd attendance figures released for yesterday’s match.

Wow people turn up to support us then some here have a go. I will never understand that sort of attitude.

Standing around chugging lager with your mates with your back to the game ISN'T supporting...but it does make us some much needed cash I suppose 🤔

I’ve seen more noise from 800 than 2500 that was there yesterday.

Must say the revenue the clubs misses out on by not having sufficient bar/drinks outlets is shocking. Can bar anyone?

Only need to look at where Dulwich are now. It’s a social day out with football on the side.
