A person much greater than me said that "football is a simple game, you just pass the ball to someone in the same colour shirt until you get the chance to pass the ball into the goal."

Classic if your theory was right everyone would be playing the game beautifully.

I think you have been spoilt for a few seasons hence your views.

We did kick the odd long ball last season.... anyway, how anyone can say that the standard of oppos is irrelevant is beyond me. So, you'd try to mx it with Brazil, should they come to the bridge? Sometimes you have to get the ball forward quickly, we'd all love to see designer football on a weekly basis, but if it meant we got pounded every week then I think the attendances might suffer.

As for the swearing, my other half came to one game last season and actually felt quite scared. Mind you she was wearing an I love steve west shirt.

Long ball will be your style of football for the coming season as your new manager has always played that style of football..

As a Canvey fan, you seem to know an awful lot about the style of play at Thurrock. Do you actually go to watch Canvey?

look at it this way.

if we do adopt a long ball approach, the balls will be in the air higher, leading to more clearances upfield, leading to more sliced clearances, meaning more balls out of the ground! huzzah!!!

for what it's worth, i'm confident that the style of football we play will be adaptable, but most importantly, effective enough to succeed in this division.

see you on boxing day canvey boy, although i shant return the good luck wishes... can't quite understand the hostile reaction, it seemed a fairly reasonable post to me.

Seen Thurrock play alot because we have played them many times during our glory Ryman days so i know they played a very direct style..

I not trying to say its the wrong way of playing, to be fair Purfleet / Thurrock used to be very hard to beat. They were just never the most exciting team to watch because they missed the midfield out with long balls and broke the game up alot.

Maybe your style will be different but like i say i expect you to play a direct and physical style of football...

See you boxing day people

I shall have my say here....

this long ball 'white elephant' is all nonsense...anyone that has played the game knows full well that you play the ball that hurts the oppo...we are not arsenal...we are in ryman div one north and we want to win it...we won't win it playing fancy balls thru midfield whilst everyone kicks fck out of us...

now lets look at adrians histrionics last night....mostly orientated towards 'long ball' but frequently interspersed with manic cries of 'we do not lose at home' (interesting that a ten man thruck under 'wottsisname' beat the 'mighty full time hx' in confsarf at home)

had we won last night against conference full time gravesend would adrian have remonstrated about his views on 'long balls'

I think not....

football is about winning...everyone goes home happy....

We won't all try to kick fck out you Unc, honest. Some of do try to play good football, sometimes. Some teams do have a more robust attitude to the game, it's true.

However last season there was a bit of moaning about introducing the long ball game, probably quite justified in our case as our tallest player was about three foot six. We don't actually need a gap in the pitch surround rail for the lads to run out...
