fa cup or playoffs?

Recommended Posts

Depends on what you think sets the club up better for the future. A payday at Old Trafford that would allow you to renew contracts and strengthen the team for a better crack at the play-offs next season?

My only fear now is that play-offs (unsuccessful ones at any rate) might be a year or two too soon for young players like this, and they'd be under pressure to repeat the feat the season after, when teams would have wised up that the Fleet weren't to be taken lightly.

I'd bite your hand off for either play-offs or Man U though!!

FA Cup by a mile - we are not big enough and do not have the fans to sustain league 2 football - simple as that really. We would/could possibly be a laughing stock in L2!!??

FA Cup would give us the cash and we do have a superb management set up to deal with a large sum of money and a push for bigger gates.

I'd take the cup run if it gives us a decent payday.

Every season at least one Conference club gets a bumper payout from the FA cup, Burton, Exeter, Scarborough, Farnborough etc. An away tie at Man united could be worth around £1million which could set us up for the next two or three seasons.

If we managed a place in the play-offs it would be unlikely although not impossible that we got anything out of it other than extending the season a few weeks and ending up dissapointed. If we managed to win through how on earth would we finance a season in the league?

Halifax were in the play-offs last year....I wonder which their fans would choose?

Cup run = Money...hopefully

Still not sure we made enough from the Villa tie

Cup run = Raise our profile nationally

Attract the players we may need for the future

Cup run = Memories ( not the Elaine Paige type though )...money lasteth not , memories lasteth until dementia sets in or alcohol distorteth ... now going to fetch a kleenex to wipe my screen

Play-off's for me I reckon. However, if we were to get into the play-off's and gain promotion, would our ground be ok for League 2?

Technically, all grounds in the Conference are good enough for entry to the League. However, certain higher standards have to be reached by certain points once a side has gone up; ultimately, three seasons into a club's time in the League, they will have to have 2,000 seats. See confguide for more details.

There is really only one answer.

FA Cup it is.

A good cup run to the 3rd or 4th round would give us the financial stability required to build a squad not only capable of gaining promotion, but to sustain that level once league status has been achieved.

At present, we have neither the infrastructure nor the level of support needed to keep us in league 2.

I would be delighted to make the play offs, in fact I would be elated, but at the same time I wouldn't be downhearted or despondant if we failed.

What we need until the end of the season is a slow, steady rise in the gates from the present level of 1200 to 1500.

The FA Cup may give a kick start, together with a good performance against Oxford, which promises to be our biggest league gate since Canvey.

Lastly, even if the club did somehow manage to sustain this form all season and make the play offs, can we the supporters honestly say that WE deserve promotion. We simply HAVE to turn up in larger numbers than we do.

The product is good, the football is (invariably) free flowing, and the attendances are still barely better than last year.

Of course it could be the £12 is still putting people off.

Talking of which is there any chance of putting the prices up for Oxford, if they are going to bring over a thousand supporters and it looks like they won't be back next year anyway we might as well fleece the buggers.
I will willing pay an extra £3.00 for that match if the club are going to get an extra £3,000 from the away fans. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I suspect our casual supporters may disagree.

I reckon I'll have about 10 "casuals" with me for the Oxford game....I am sure that they won't mind an extra £3 on the entrance fee....after all, it is in a good cause & I will be surprised if they notice once the pre match beers have taken effect !!

Cheers,

I did suggest to Jason that we charge £18 and include a £6 voucher to be used at a future match. I'm not sure how the Conference would view it though.
