What ?
You seriously think we needed to sell John to generate publicity for MYFC ??? Unbelievable .
John went because HE WANTED TO / HE NEEDED TO / CITY WANTED HIM / THE OFFER WAS MORE THAN ACCEPTABLE TO THE CLUB .
Apologies for shouting , but these are the facts . Do you think Jimmy Bullard played like he does now during his stint at the Fleet ? NO ! John will be a great player - he's 19 , and needs full time professional football at a big club , with specialist trainers ... he ain't gonna get that at the Fleet with 12 hours of training a week . Whether he plays for them this year or not , there will be big changes to his style of play and fitness ... and I wish him all the best .

Akinde had already stated that he would not sign a new contract and would leave at the end of this season. So we sell now and get a reasonable sum of money or we wait until May he walks and we get a small amount from arbitration.

People stated they voted for many different reasons
(1) we need the money
(2) we should get money now than letting him walk in May
(3) we shouldn't stand inthe way of a young players career

And against
(1) we shouldn't sell our best players
(2) we need Akinde to get promoted.

The CEO has already stated that if the vote went against the transfer it would not have gone through

I think you misunderstand me.

My point was, if the club is in such financial dire straits, putting crucial decisions like playing budgets, player transfers to a forum is a recipe for disaster. In the case of Akinde, of course he has to be sold, its a no brainer for all the reasons you state. But if the vote had gone to keep him, you would have been left with a player worth nothing at the end of the season and the club in deeper financial trouble. And a majority voted to increase the playing budget despite mounting losses. To me it looks like playing russian roulette with the club rather than a fans democracy.

Speaking only for myself here, but I agree with Dom on this. There's no way MyFC would have voted for the largest budget option had we been privy to the actual budget numbers at the time. We weren't. We were told "the club accountants" believed any of the options was "affordable," and thus the membership overwhelmingly voted to give Liam the best squad we "could afford." The fact that we really couldn't afford it never entered into the debate because we weren't given any tangible financial data at the time.

I firmly believe if the people in positions of power at the club, the society board, and the operator ever trust the members with full information, we'll make the right choices for the club. But as any computer person will tell you, rubbish in - rubbish out. This is not a personal attack on anyone and there are signs that the information flow is getting better (thank you, CEO). We are all learning as we go, and the budget vote is one we blew. What we need to do now is find a way to survive the potential financial fallout and not repeat such a mistake in the future. It benefits no one if we all just point fingers.
