Well done Broxbourne

Recommended Posts

Why strange, they don't even play on grass and astroturf is murder on knees and ankles in preparation for a game in the SSML on a Saturday, from recollection Times Athletic play on Thursday's so there is little time for players such as Safraz to recover properly

Well done to Burkey & Max, both young lads with bags of ability lets hope they can both go on a realise their obvious potential. Credit too must go to Tony F and Broxbourne for not standing in the lads way

Was either one of them on contract?

See Tony was oustanding on his debut yesterday.

A report from TK forum

Saturday 14th October

Southern League Premier Division

Cambridge City (1)4 Clevedon Town (0)0 KO 3:00 Att’ce 305

Entrance £10 Programme £2 Pork roast roll £3.50

Tony Burke, newly signed this week from Broxbourne Borough, came off the bench to produce an inspired debut. He replaced Adie Cambridge who suffered a head injury after only 10 minutes and took up position on the right wing from where he terrorised the visitors. His first touch, passing and movement, not to mention his penetrating runs, made him an instant hit with the home fans.

Nevertheless, it took 39 minutes for the hosts to break down the stubborn Clevedon defence. Steve Gentle was fouled outside the area, and the impressive Ashley Fuller stepped up to fire home the resultant free kick.

Cambridge were quicker off the mark in the second half, doubling their lead after 51 minutes. From a throw in Barrett gave the ball to Fuller on the left wing. From deep in his own half he went on a run to the edge of the opposition’s penalty area. Once there, he cut inside and fired home with his right foot.

It was 3-0 after 68 minutes. Fuller’s shot was saved by Clevedon goalkeeper Greaves but Midgley side footed home the rebound. The hosts turned on the style from there and added a fourth after 81 minutes when the visitors failed to cut out a low cross which was tapped home by Gentle.

Sloppy defending allowed Clevedon to pull a goal back with 5 minutes left when Jamal Easter got between the two centre halves to head home a cross from the right.

Full marks must go to the girls in the tea bar. They do a pork roast roll with onions and stuffing that, although a bit pricey at £3.50, was absolutely delicious. It goes into first position in the “food of the season” list.

Watch the first 5 mins its all Tony Burke looks like he did have a great start set up at least 5 good chances shame they didnt put them away. Good luck to both Broxbourne players and well done to Broxbourne despite their promotion push for not standing in the players way..!!

I see that Broxbourne Borough have been all over the Non League Today Website like a rash since I've been away, it's great to see the return of Prodigal Son Bradley Drisdale to Goffs Lane and he should be the icing on the cake:

Saf06 - That's the million dollar question, I've taken the liberty of finding an old match report from the memorable promotion season and those wonderful names trip of the tongue like honey don't they:

Saturday 10 November 2007

Spartan South Midlands League Division 1

Kentish Town 1 Sport London e Benfica 0

Following Town's inspired 2-1 midweek win at promotion rivals Hoddesdon Town it was plain from the outset that Sport London e Benfica would be a tough nut to crack and so it proved in what was a bruising and often scrappy encounter.

Town started well and created a number of early openings which raised eyebrows in the opposition camp who were clearly used to having things their own way. Town almost took an early lead in spectacular circumstances as a high bounce caught the goalkeeper off guard and the ball sailed over his head and seemingly over the line only for Referee Mr Hart to allow play to continue, the ball came out to Jonathan Donoghue who was unable to convert from close range with the ball going wide off a post.

Benfica then showed how dangerous they can be on the break by creating two good scoring opportunities in quick succession, one of which saw the ball enter the net, however on both occasions a linesmans flag indicated a player had strayed offside much to Benfica's frustration. The game was end to end at this point midway through the first period without the goalkeepers being properly tested, Town won a free kick on the edge of the box however specialist Paul Butler was unable to deliver and the ball sailed high and wide.

The game began to get a little physical for Mr Hart's liking and he needed eyes in the back of his head at times, a crude challenge on Town's debutante Mark Doyle went unpunished with the player needing lengthy treatment.

As the players returned to their dressing rooms for the interval with the score goaless a flare up occurred with one or two punches being thrown and the visiting Chairman became involved in an argument with spectators, this wasn't totally unexpected however with so much riding on the result.

Town took the lead shortly after the restart on 48 minutes when they were awarded a free kick some 25 yards from goal. With no apparent danger Thomas Looney stepped up to the mark and saw his shot enter the net following a fumble by the visiting goalkeeper.

Town then immediately introduced South American Javier Rivera for his home bow in place of Shaka Cole who was feeling unwell following an excellent first period, Rivera immediately stamped his authority and experience on the proceedings with some silky skills and a 40 yard run out of defence almost produced a goal with his shot going just wide. The goal had come at a crucial time for Town with the visitors being forced to come out and try to dictate play however the back line of Quattromini, Kanaris and McMullen coped comfortably with what was thrown at them and keeper Paul Williamson saw very little of the ball.

Town introduced Bradley Newall for the injured Doyle who had done well to last so long following his first half injury. The tireless Kelfala Fofana was unlucky when embarking on a foray deep into the Benfica half with Town now in command. With minutes remaining debutante Russell Brown was introduced for Lee Scott who for once did not find himself on the score sheet, Brown almost converted with his first touch when shooting just wide as the Referee put the whistle to his lips to signal the end of the proceedings and a hard fought three points for Town.

Town travel to the outskirts of Milton Keynes on Saturday to take on New Bradwell St Peter, kick off 3.00.

Town Team: Williamson, Looney, R Quattromini, Kanaris, T McMullen, Cole, D Dawson, Fofana, Scott, Donoghue, Doyle.

Subs: Rivera, Brown, Onuoha, Newall, Jarzabek

Oh dear, the New Bradwell game....6-0 to Kentish, surprisingly I think Lee Scott again failed to find the target, and that didn't happen too often back then

Your spot on, did miss a penalty but game was already won by then eh.

My lad had dislocated his shoulder the week before at Ampthill so we didn't have a replacement keeper, and if you remember the selected one for this game between the sticks was at fault.....well for just about everything LOL, I mean to be beaten from the halfway line was it from your right back just about summed up his day, and the pen miss summed up ours, taking though nothing away from KT that day, awesome display of football and finishing (with a little help.

I had the first 5 goals down to him, he actually thought he was a good footballer as a forward or defender, lets put it this way he was a better keeper than outfield player so I think that sums him up LOL
