Ian_W 151
Probably because the government asked him to do several long-haul trips. His personal expenses were down by about a quarter as well.

Rhodes 226
When do we think that Charles will finally become King, I believe he's 64 this year and the Queen is likely to live for another ten years at least
missunderstood 170
About time this country had a grown up debate to decide if we still want to retain this outdated institution. Meanwhile though, the two geriatric job-blockers deserve each other.
Olafobi Bakayakadingdong 10
Mr Missunderstood, do you really think this nation could have a grown up debate over the monarchy ? I think not, especially when there are cynical, anti-establshment people around like you about. True, the whole civil list should be abolished apart from the top levels, but HM Queen is a very nice lady & has been a remarkable servant to the commonwealth. I also think Princes Charles & William would be fine leaders for our proud nation. Happy St.Georges Day
Eastside Urchin 991
Why destroy part of this country's heritage & tradition because some people can't stand people with wealth & stature
Loose 320
Who gives a sh*t. Waste of space the lot. missunderstood
missunderstood 170
Why destroy part of this country's heritage & tradition because some people can't stand people with wealth & stature Because some of us would prefer to live in a more forward looking progressive country that distributes wealth and stature more evenly, and doesn't wish to live in a feudal past that most other nations deemed unnecessary decades ago . IMO its ridiculous that anyone can become a head of state purely because of an outdated birthright that refuses to take into account any suitability for the task. Loose 320
It still amazes me that people who survive by their own labour and wits in this age feel the need to lickspittle up to these parasites. They talk about heritage and tradition as if they'd forgotten that if we kept every aspect of centuries old "tradition" they'd still be required to drop everything in their lives, their responsibilities to family, their livelihood, their belongings and march off to war without a moments notice to further these parasites whims. It's bad enough that these leeches live off our taxes when centuries of our ancestors have made them already fabulously wealthy that they feel the need to still tug the forelock. Let's see how they feel when their daughters marry the man they love and their "king" gets first dabbles eh? Start with the House of Lords, throw these people out on their ar$es. Eastside Urchin 991
I would keep the monarchy, they are a very important part of our country & union. The rest i would tell to jog on but our capital city is full of history and getting rid of this by getting rid of the monarchy would probably end up having a negative effect on our economy. Rhodes 226
Incdredibly Prince Charles has turned down the opportunity to watch Jessica Ennis's bid to win gold on Saturday, instead he will be judging, wait for it, a tug of war competition at the Highland Games in Caithness near John O'Groats. The Mayor Of Simpleton 112
Good on Prince Charles, got a lot of time for the Monarchy. Yes, they cost the taxpayer but they also bring a LOT of money in to the country. Would you really want President 'Call Me Dave'? I certainly know that I wouldn't! If we're going to talk about saving money, we can look at quitting the EU for a start...
Rhodes 226
AdamKing - I didn't say that I haven't got time for the Monarchy, I'm just saying that it's the Olympic Games in London for goodness sake and our future King can't even be bothered to attend
The Mayor Of Simpleton 112
Hmmm, can't be bothered to attend or he already has a prior engagement with the staff at the Highland Games? I would suspect it's the latter - Prince Charles is a big fan and supporter of the Highland Games, and his 'booking' there must have been a long-standing obligation. Besides, there are more than enough members of the Royal Family represented there so it's no big deal.
Rhodes 226
Well Prince Charles has known for about seven years that the Olympic Games were taking place this summer so could have made sure there wouldn't be a clash with the Highland Games to avoid an embarrassment such as this. I'm not 'Call Me Dave's' biggest fan but at least he has attended events, as has 'figure of fun' Boris Johnson, and not shyed away using every excuse in the book not to be there.
The Mayor Of Simpleton 112
Rhodes, how is it an embarrassment? HM Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Anne, Prince William etc. have all been there, so what difference does it make if Charles and Camilla aren't there? Besides, it's Prince Charles' choice, and if you read up on his reason to attend the Highland Games over the Olympics it is because he wants to keep the memory of his Grandmother (the Queen Mother) alive. I, for one, respect his decision to do so.
Rhodes 226
Yes but where would you rather be, the Olympic Stadium in Stratford watching the greatest show on earth in your home city or hundreds of miles away in bleak John O'Groats with a load of 'sweaty socks' watching tug of war and tossing the caber
The Mayor Of Simpleton 112
I'd rather be in Gloucester this weekend There'll probably be an exhibition of sorts on at the Docks. I can't stand crowds (unless football or rugby) and I hate queues.
Pink Panther 7
Prince Charles- A fool born with a Fools Face. A man who sent a text wishing to be a Tampax. A jug eared idiot who wished to be a females bicycle seat. The Queen- Her ancestors stole the land and the wealth from the country. Rhodes- A idiot of the highest degree who spends his days brown nosing anyone he thinks is superior to him. PS please remove your snout from my Anal Canal. Rhodes 226
Pink Panther - I think that's a bit harsh on Prince Charles but I can see where you're coming from, he certainly doesn't do himself any favours at times does he
Pink Panther 7
You are correct on this one Mr Rhoades. I have been a bit harsh on old Charlie. After all, i for one would not mind using my face to be Pippa Middletons bike seat.Unlike Charlies choice of Camilla parker Bowles. lets 'FACE'it, a hour under that and you would come up smelling like Billingsgate Fish market in a heatwave. The Mayor Of Simpleton 112
I think you'll find that Camilla prefers to be on top - she has Charlie's lugholes to hold onto
Rhodes 226
Talking of Camilla, to be fair and to her credit she has always taken a back seat hasn't she and knows that she can never take Princess Diana's place
