The FA Cup EPR Results Thread (Fri and Sat)

Recommended Posts

Dorking manager Tony Webb will be hoping that his side do not end up ruing not dispatching fellow CCL side Horley Town at the first attempt in this FA Cup tie on Saturday, Dorking failing to capitalise on a dominant first half and some equally good second half chances as the game ended all square. The match is now to be replayed on Tuesday night at the New Defence, kick off 7.45pm.

Dorking had been unfortunate not to pick up at least a point in the late midweek defeat at Raynes Park Vale in a good team performance, and Dorking carried on that form in the first half against Horley Town. Indeed, given that Horley had won 4-0 away at Banstead also in midweek in a league game, whereas Chicks had lost both opening matches, neutral observers will have wondered which was the unbeaten league side as Dorking took the game to their opponents.

Perhaps most pleasing for Tony Webb was that while Horley had chances to score themselves, particularly in the second half as the context got closer, this was his sides first clean sheet of the season as the back four looked solid before a once more confident Dan Coote in goal.

Dorking saw plenty of possession in the opening 45 minutes, but Horley held firm, the nearest Dorking came was when a post was struck.

Horley came more into the game in the second period, but it was still Dorking who were carving out the better chances, Dorking thinking they had won the game with 10 minutes to go when following a goal mouth scramble, the ball fell to last season

Sandhurst 2 Erith 4

Started poorly and were 2 down after about 10. A tactical change after 30 mins breathed some life into Sandhurst and pulled it back to 2 - 2.

Turning point in the game was when our stiker was brought down from behind on the edge of the box but the ball fell kindly to our midfielder who was through on goal, but the ref called it back. Everyone expected the centre half to get a second yellow (Erith bench were preparing to bring a defender on for a striker), but the ref just talked to him. The free kick was wasted and Erith won a corner on the break that they scored from.

4-2 minutes later before Sandhurst had a couple of penalty shouts turned down (one was stone wall).

There was just enough time for the Erith manager to be sent from the touchline for encroaching onto the pitch for the 3rd time.

Overall we should have killed them off on Saturday. Erith were the better side on the night but I fancy Ash to comfortably beat them in the next round.
