You could work on things all training session but basically if someone decides not to mark their man at a set piece ( twice as well ) what can Steve / Jason or Pete do about that. Individual errors cost us their first two goals tonight.

If someone decides not to mark their man (repeatedly!) then you drop them for someone who can and will. Don't you?

Perhaps Steve should take a lesson from the Tom Lawrence school of management. Terry Howard virtually an ever present in the Enfield team in 1964 did not follow instructions in the semi final of the amateur cup against Kingstonian at Stamford Bridge and was dropped for the final at Wembley . Never played for Enfield again.

Couple of quotes from Lewes forum :-

Enfield going forward looked quite good, caused us problems in the opening 10 minutes, but at the back they were laughable. They gifted Ben Austin 2 goals, although he did take them well.

Not a game of two halves, but of three periods. The first lasted a little less than ten minutes at the very beginning and consisted of waves of fairly pretty attacks by the visitors and hoofed clearances by us, as if we hadn't recovered from the Leatherhead experience. The second lasted for a little less than twenty minutes at the end when, comfortable at 3-1, we suddenly felt in danger of a Met Police event and seemed unable to close a very ordinary side down. Mercifully we dominated most of the period in between and fully deserved our win.

A thoroughly deserved win by the boys last night albeit against quite poor opposition. We played well and dominated for an hour, barring the first 5 minutes, apparently, which I missed, but we then sat back a bit for the last 25 (fatigue?) and let them back into it. Fortunately Enfield were pretty inept up front and all chances were spurned.

To give a centre back like Ben Austin a free header at a corner is awful. Twice in a row is unforgiveable. The Enfield manager must have been pulling his hair out at that.

Nice flowing move for our third with Nathan Crabb being just where he should be to finish it off. If only we could give him more chances like that. The six yard box is his bread and butter.

Unusual mistake by Rikki for their goal. I thought he had that cross well covered but somehow their player got there first.

I like the look of Reece Hall. He has loads of pace and was quite influential first half.

Anyway, a good win and keeps us up there. Hopefully we gained some confidence for the tougher prospect on Saturday.

Not Great Reading for Towners.

Not great reading for Towners.

Comments regarding our defence are a joke - but only because they are 100% TRUE.

Said it before - Say it again - Something MUST change, Now.

Comeon states it is not down to Management but Players - well there is an answer to that one.

Change the Players or drill in some discipline.

Steve has always been the type of manager who praises the players when it's due even in defeat like say Grays earlier this season. Don't think twisting words is a good thing. We just saw two previous battling performances v Billericay and Lowestoft , but all this was undone by two unmarked , unchallenged headers from corner kicks. That aside the players who were available kept going and the difference in the end was those two free headers. Steve has said before players must take responsibility and do the right things

Over any given season players will make unforced errors. As a team, decisions will go for and against them.Throughout the season a team will have players injured and unavailable. Its the same for every team in our league..That doesn't change the fact that for most of us,last years position in the league was only acceptable because it was our first season at this level. That sort of position would not be acceptable if repeated..Minimum requirement for this season must be some sort of progression/improvement from last season..I said at the start of this season that a top-half finish would be the only way the management team would be given a strong mandate to take the club into the following campaign.Maybe that was optimistic on my part judging by the first part of this season..I realise that if we had more money for wages we could  attract/keep better players such as Mcgliesh/ Osei (Met Police),but even so we need to starting gelling the current players into some sort of unit and getting them to deliver their best performances on a more consistent basis.

Indeed, but how many 'individual errors' have to be made before the player(s) in question are benched? We're now at the end of October and the 'individual errors' in marking at set pieces are still happening. If players aren't 'doing the right things' is it because they're being asked to do something that's beyond them or because they think they know better? If management can't get the players to do what they want there are two solutions: one, change the players, two change the management. Which is it to be?

As i have said on the other thread. Now is the time to change the manager and players.

I agree wth Tom. At times last yr it was embarrasing to watch the team.

If we give Steve more games against lower opposition and then we win thats just covering over the cracks we have.

Please Board have the guts to do what needs to be done NOW.
