Sports Shots reaction to the Second Round draw, it's a tough one for Milton Keynes Irish away against last seasons Quarter Finalists:

Buildbase FA Vase 2R: MK Irish head to Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division leaders Wroxham

2nd November 2020 by Andy Bone

MK Irish have been drawn away to face Thurlow Nunn League, Premier Division leaders Wroxham.

The second round tie in the Buildbase FA Vase sees Terry Shrieves take his Irish outfit to a side who have won each one of their nine league fixtures this campaign.

Wroxham, who play at Trafford Park, are nicknamed the Yachtsmen and play on the Norfolk Broads.

Their current squad includes Grant Holt, the former Norwich City and Nottingham Forest striker, who appeared nine times this season.

Another announcement from the blazers at the FA, they state the obvious that 'no FA Vase ties will be played in lockdown' however there is no reason why the competition can't resume shortly afterwards is there, even on Saturday 5 December:

The FA has confirmed that the 2020/21 FA Trophy & FA Vase have been 'suspended until further notice'. No Trophy or Vase ties will be played in lockdown. It 'remains the FA's intention to complete the Trophy & Vase with all clubs having the opportunity to play their fixtures'.

Karen indicated on another thread that the FA Vase Second Round ties are likely to take place on the weekend of 5/6 December should the lockdown be lifted on Wednesday 2 December as planned, is that a definite.

If the FA Vase Second Round ties do hopefully go ahead over the weekend of 5/6 December it will only be a week later than originally scheduled so no real harm done. Have I missed something as will the Semi Finals not be over two legs this season:

This isn't going to be a walk in the park for Eynesbury Rovers is it against Eastern Counties League Premier Division Stowmarket Town, they reached the Fifth Round last season winning at Colney Heath along the way:

Edgware Town have never progressed beyond the Fifth Round of the FA Vase when reaching that stage just the once in 1991/92 infact the Club have surprisingly only been beyond the Third Round twice before, this could well be their season to reach the latter stages:

What odds could you have got at Ladbrokes, William Hill or Coral for Leighton Town to meet Eastern Counties League Premier Division Mildenhall Town again in the FA Vase, the sides met in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round earlier this season at Bell Close with Leighton Town running out comfortable 4-0 winners with goals from Archie McClelland, Ben Pattie, Louie Collier and substiture Ashton Campbell, see match report and programme. I gather Recreation Way is quite a nice little ground and Joe Sweeney will be looking forward to taking his men there:

I wonder what GRS67 has to say about that, wouldn't Fergus Moore have known one of his players was ineligible

Match Preview

This will be our biggest test in the Vase this season as Walsham are 6th in the Thurlow Nunn League with a record of Played 9, won 5, drew 1 and lost 3. They reached this round with wins over Hoddesden Town 5-1 and Sheringham 1-0. We at the moment are the joint 2nd top scorers in the cup this season with 14 goals with wins over Chalvey Sports 5-1, Oxhey Jets 3-1 and Sandhurst Town 6-2.

Assistant Manager Gary Brown's thoughts ahead of the game.

What a strange season it's been stop, start, but finally there's light at the end of the tunnel with a massive FA Vase game to kick the season back off.

We have equalled the furthest the club has got in this great competion and playing some great football along the way.

The boys will be ready for the game no doubt and with this young squad, if they turn up and play like they can they will be a match for anyone in the competition.

Walsham will be a great test for us and I'm sure they will be up for the game too and let's hope its a good match. We have a fully fit side to chose from which we haven't had for the last month which is great for us because it gives us loads of options all over the park.
Its a good distraction from the league and gives us a chance to showcase our young talent.
We know Walsham are going to be a good test but if we play like we can I have total confidence we will get the result.
Win, lose or draw, its nice for football to be back in these hard times, so let's enjoy it while we can. We wish our opponents a safe journey and good luck for the rest of the season in their League.

I wonder which way this one will go, Ilford are fourth from bottom in the Essex Senior League and needed penalties to dispose of lowly Benfleet at home in the Second Qualifying Round:

Yep, they have pulled out of the vase.  No game for us, worrying times ahead I think.  Government pushing it to the fa, fa pushing it to local leagues, and local leagues not knowing what to do for the best.  Unless we get firm leadership and some direction from the actual fa on what we can and can't do, who knows what is going to happen this season.

Leighton have told the league that we are happy to play league games with the current regulations, but I know of 5 clubs that will be telling the league they won't be happy to play when they have there meeting tomorrow night.

Government. FA. Leadership.

Can you put that into a sentence and keep a straight face?
