>>How comes there are two Enfield Teams

There are three - Enfield FC are the original team, and they lost their ground a few seasons ago - it is now a housing estate and an outback steakhouse. They ground shared at Boreham Wood for several seasons and are now ground sharing at Ware.

Enfield Town FC was formed by some Enfield FC supporters who were unhappy with events following the sale of the ground. They have never had their own ground, and have always ground shared at Brimsdown Rovers. They were admitted straight into the Essex Senior League, and remained there until the ground was brought up to Isthmian standard.

The third club is Brimsdown Rovers, who have nothing to do with either of the two clubs with Enfield in the name.

For the record, there were two other senior clubs in Enfield - Highfield FC who used to play at Turkey Street in the 70s, and Rolenmil FC, who also played at Turkey Street, though not at the same ground. Both were in the Spartan League.

Very close but you missed that theground was brought up to standard and we went into the southern league for a season and the list of senior teams in Enfield is not complete. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

It may have been a wind up but I think your post does need correcting.

"Enfield Town FC was formed by some Enfield FC supporters who were unhappy with events following the sale of the ground."

Some implies that it was a minority of supporters who formed Enfield Town FC whereas it was a substantial majority who decided to form Enfield Town FC. It is the SMALL minority who remain at EFC who are the renegades in that they did not wish to abide by a democratic decision in an election in which they took part.

Since you ask and always willing to enlighten please read the following. It is also interesting to note that Enfield used to be in Essex so it was reasonable that we played in the Essex Senior League.

In particular note the following,

"It was probably from this division of the manor between Eustace and Richard that there came to be two manors in Little Laver: Little Laver alias Bourchiers Hall and Enfields alias Envilles "

"In 1066 LITTLE LAVER was held as a manor by Brictmar. (fn. 42) In 1086 it was held of Eustace Count of Boulogne by Richard and was worth 10s. (fn. 43) In 1190 an assize was held to determine whether Eustace de Lagefare had more right to hold the 'land of Lagefare' of the king than the king had to hold it in demesne. (fn. 44) In 1200 Ralph de Rochester brought a suit against Eustace de Lagefare, the tenant, for possession of the land. (fn. 45) Afterwards they came to an agreement whereby Eustace de Lagefare acknowledged 'all the town of Lagefare' to be the right of Ralph de Rochester who granted to Eustace the services of 8 tenants and 27 acres of land to hold of him by the service of 1/3 knight's fee. (fn. 46) In 1212 and 1217-18 Ralph de Rochester held Little Laver in chief of the king by the service of ½ fee and Richard de Rochester and his brother Eustace held the manor of Ralph. (fn. 47) It was probably from this division of the manor between Eustace and Richard that there came to be two manors in Little Laver: Little Laver alias Bourchiers Hall and Enfields alias Envilles (see below). It seems, however, that until 1325, if not later, the estates held by the successors of Eustace and Richard were considered not as separate manors but as parts of one manor. (fn. 48) In 1307 this manor was held of Robert, 2nd Lord Scales, whose great-grandfather Robert de Scales (d. before 1250), had probably inherited it through his wife Alice de Rochester. (fn. 49) Robert, 2nd Lord Scales, died in 1325 and was succeeded by his son Robert, 3rd Lord Scales. (fn. 50) After this Envilles and Bourchiers estates came to be regarded as separate manors but they probably continued under a common overlord. Certainly in 1428 the tenant in chief of both manors was Humphrey Stafford, later Duke of Buckingham (d. 1460). (fn. 51)
