New Players or retained players.

Recommended Posts

Guys I'm sure you are aware that all players apart from contracted players are free to leave the club.

We cannot sign players on again until July 1st any club that does unless they are being placed on contract are taking a big risk.

Let's keep the faith and see what July brings we may be in for a few surprises.

Well said Wildlife rescue.

I would add also that the club usually offers terms to the players they want to retain for next season, this information is kept private for obvious reason.Once the club can safely announce who has commited to stay and who will be joining we will know. Its the same every season and it will be in future seasons untill we have the funds as a club to offer more players 2 year contracts.

Others have funds to place players on contract. If we can't offer a contract what is the point of announcing as another club, knowing that a player is available, just come along and take them. Players are free agents until they sign for a club. We have to thank the Bosman ruling for that.

When a player signs at the start of the season what is he signing on for commitment wise... i understand contract players are committed to our club but all the other players we retain are they signing on for the season ... if so isn’t that a contract ...but if not and they are free to leave any time what is the point of signing on....

when you sign a player on contract he is paid 52 weeks of a year weather he plays or not other players sign to play for etfc just like you or I working for a company you can leave when you like, you are not committed to that company /club  and you can leave when you like. we would need a wealthy chairman or big funds to put all out team on contracts .. so if he signs at the start nothing to stop him leaving two months later  or two years later

Old Towner that is not exactly accurate.

As I understand the rules regarding signing players who are not put on a contract.

The club offers terms for the player to commit to play for the season,if the player accepts we register him as our player with the league, and he cannot play for any other club unless a loan or dual registration is agreed.

Other clubs though can put in a 7 day approach for a signed player,ie informs the club they intend to offer terms to sign our player, our club has 7 days to offer new terms ect to player, then after 7 days the other club can approach the player. This is why some players are not inclined to sign contracts,as the contracts usually put off an approach.

At the end of a season all non contract players become free agents and cannot be resigned untill a certain date. This is the reason for silence from the club as they do not want to tip off other clubs of players who may be available. Why make it easier for other clubs to grab players we would like to retain.

Thanks for that explanation 72.... to be honest every club would know which of our players are contracted so they would know every other player is up for grabs if they wanted them....the 7 day approach seems ridiculous ... maybe 4 weeks might make the signature have more value....

The 7 day approach is for non contacted players

Contacted players can of course leave but would usually involve a transfer fee.    , .

Can we not require every player to sign a 'nominal' contract at start of the season? (With real wages coming in the form of appearance and bonus money?) Otherwise find players that are willing to commit for a full season. Is there a minimum payment to retain a player on  a contract?

Isn't this the same for even club though?
