view from the riverside today...

Uncle Urchin

pitch in excellent condition and sparkling emerald green in the wintery afternoon sun...tilbury in red shorts just to confuse the urchins (with black and white striped shirts) and two linos who looked like they should be at school..(as it turns out they were both hopelessly inept as was the referee who thinks that the penalty rules are for 1st degree murder only.... )

anyway why spoil a good tale by dwelling on that....so orf we went and without any chances really from either side honours were even at half time and as the star essex senior league player 'old twinkle toes' McGoldrick dragged his ancient legs off injured for an early bath....the riverside 'newly becrowned' princesses managed to surpress their giggles and called out messages of sympathy...

second half a much improved urchins who took control of the game and created many good chances only to find the tilbury keeper in fine form indeed as he denied chance after chance from the marauding urchins....on came tim hambley for longman and lee springer for danny heeeeeeeeaaale who had worked his socks off without reward...tim changed the game with cleverly created width as he switched from one flank to the other with tiffers whilst springer 'sprang' at the defence and unsettled them...and the goal from tim when it came was a cracker and well worth a 'looky see' on the afchtv channel....(pay per view will commence next season)

more chances followed and in the end a worthy urchins victory although the first half gave no sign of that with golby majestic at the back and a worthy winner of the MOM award presented by Mcfly....

nice as always to see crossy winding the fans up and vice versa and as always he sent out a committed and hard working team who perhaps lost their legs after the break...

well done to the fans and the players and staff on both sides...a good cup tie and we await our opponents in the semi to reveal themselves next saturday when the 'sniffingtons' attempt to overturn a 2 goal deficit or else its our old friends from the boro next up...

culdn't make it all up culdya....

I went to the bar at 3.44 and got my pint, watched the half-time scores on the tele, had a chat, finished my pint, looked out of the window and see game in action, dash out only to hear the half time whistle. How much injury time was there for feck sake.

The first half went by without anything of any merit apart from the not so handsome Hunty going of with a groin strain to the disappointment of the riverside princesses.Good second half display and great winner by Hambley.

I do not want to criticise the officials as after watching the Egypt v Libya they are quality.

Good words there UU and nice to see the princesses in full regalia!

What happened to DM, was he injured or just getting an early shower in preparation for the party next week?

Anyway as I keep saying it is a squad game and indeed it proved it with Mr Gammidge's winner and what a scorcher it was, well pleased and of course well deserved on the balance of play.

I would have been even more delighted if Gerry had have tucked away that late chance, but the keep did save well. Another feather in our cap so to speak, with his pace our Gerry can terrorise defences.

MOM Golbs well deserved after some great performances of late.

Special mention for the Under 16's all kitted out in their AFCHX trackies, well done boys and good luck at Bowers today in your cup match.

I won't mention the officials apart from the 10 minutes injury time in the first half which should have finished with us having a pen, the second half finished promptly with the obvious conclusion that the second half injury time was actually added on at the end of the first!

Another Semi, can we now play Tilbury in a friendly pls?

yeah we got that one as it gently wafted over the emerald carpet and we all wondered what was going on.....

fancy ravsey falling for the 'protective arm around the loved ones waist'...especially on the eastside...tut..tut...tut...

the eddie murphy lookalike was a smashing kid as indeed they all were....there was an incident where another of their boys got involved in a few handbags with 'big rick'..(somewhat foolish there son )...anyway the ref decided to have a word to a chorus of off off off from the riverside chavs and he then ensured his yellow card by making a 'merchants' sign to the kids...silly of the ref really as it was all in good fun and the lad himself was larfin' when he did it....

I think the ref must have thought that he may have shocked the kids....cor blimey...he wants to sit and listen to 'em...

Morning chaps, good to catch up on Saturday even if it was only short-lived on the pitch !

Good luck in the semi and thanks again for the beer Unc !!!

Much obliged for the chants of "you ugly tw@t" and "hope your leg is broken" from the Eastside faithful !! Calf strain is the verdict I think, which at my age is almost career-threatening !
