It's Ebbsfleet United FC

Recommended Posts

Firstly, your missing the point. A local football club is meant to represent the community. Whether they're fans of the club or not. We will now be representing a train station.

Also, if I remember rightly I seem to remember you in particular posting quite a lot this last season about not being able to make games. Not everybody can make it to games on the regular and some might have stopped coming for other reasons. Ok so they're maybe not the most loyal supporters if they choose not to watch us anymore, but if you ask the town whether they support gravesend I'd guess that around 20,000 would say yes. It's this contingent of potential fans that are being alienated by the name change in favour of this so far unexisting ebbsfleet fan base.

Dunno about all that, I can say that the only reason that I started going to watch the Fleet play was that it was "Gravesend" and Nothfleet and I live in Gravesend. I wouldn't have gone if it had been called Ebbsfleet Utd, Northfleet Utd or anything else without the name Gravesend in it. Perhaps that's just me, or perhaps the amount of people that now won't start going because of the name change will be offset by the numbers that will because of this new name. I hope so, but who knows

Worth a quick read.

This one made me smile though.

They should call themselves E.N.G. Land - They'll get loads of support with that name plus they'll retain the identities of all three towns. achso

Im not saying it is the same. Just pointing out that we were first ( albeit a little sunday league side) to realise the potential and now they have come and s*** all over us. Doesnt matter one bit to us, but might have been nice to mention it to us i suppose?! oh well!! not fussed will still be a supporter of Ebbsfleet Utd and a player of Ebbsfleet FC!!

Sad, very sad. bigcry

Sorry, missed this one ! UTD Fan had to bring it to my attention over an ale at lunchtime ! Are you still Lager Top or have you been demoted to Lager Shandy ?

You cannot be certain that Dartford fc will always be Dartford fc ? Also, I recall you said going full time was a mistake ?

All depends on your ambition I suppose.......You're round......sorry I mean your round !!

Cheers,

I see us going places under the name "Ebbsfleet United," as more people will come to watch (hopefully, I'd say its likely) which means more money, something we have a lack of compared to other clubs. I think the change is refreshing, and with a new ground on the way it feels like a new start. I know not all of you want change, but change is often the only way to go forward. And forward is the way to go if we want to get into higher football.

As Shakespeare wrote: "What's in a name? that which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet"

.innit.

As a sensible person, you quote Juliet, who imho is eminently more level headed than her nutter of a boyfriend, whose attitude towards his own family name goes from the melodramatic:

"My name, dear Saint, is hateful to my self,
Because it is an Enemy to thee;
Had I it written, I would tear the word."

to the downright lunatic:

"In what vile part of this anatomy
Doth my name lodge? Tell me, that I may sack
The hateful mansion."

Please, please, please, please, please! Do not call it a "train station". It is a railway station or just a station. Use of the prefix "train" is chav speak and just drives me (and any other sane person mad).

Using just Station could confuse it with Bus Station...............Of course you could just drop Bus and call it a Station, then it really would confuse the issue...........Or are you saying no trains............oops........Are going to stop at the Station?

It's a Train Station.............I think i'm sane, and it doesn't drive me mad! I have never been called a chav either! That was always reserved for the Gypsies!

Train Station!

Train Station!

Train Station!

See?
