Midweek Games 18th-20th November

Recommended Posts

BAD GUY, if anyone can seriously read my comments and think I am offering up excuses then I think they need their heads examined.

You will no doubt recall that I informed the Forum of George Gould's heritage when he made his debut in goal 6+ months ago.

He is NOT a keeper, and has now played in the position just 3 times for Windsor, and that makes a grand total of 3 games since he was 11 years old. So his Dad tells me anyway, and if, as I believe you said 6+ months ago, you played with Ian many moons ago, you'll probably know well enough not to go questioning the accuracy / honesty of his statement to me!! :)

Where did you sit / stand last night?

I sat in the stand.....

Lewis Wood,Joe Nwoko,Laurent Hamici, used to ply their trade there a couple of seasons ago.Think Hamici, scored the winner against Park in their F.A Cup 4th Qualifying defeat,at Hayes Lane,Bromley.Revenge is sweet they say.

Exactly right smudge (except it was 2nd QR!) But as you say, revenge is sweet!

What a game to watch. Lavery comes on with ten to go after taking a knock sat and wasnt fully fit and scores a brace. They were so full of it, boasting about how much they were on etc. Skipper was sayin how hes on 200 a game! Always nice when a team with £0 budget comes out on top. Looking forward to the next round now at home.

I do wonder if George who was in goal last last is any relation to Ian Gould who played in goal for Slough, Burnham (?) and I believe Arsenal ? ;)

Yes George is Ian's son and like his dad is also a very capable cricketer and groundsman as well !  Ian also played for a number of football clubs in Sussex including Worthing and now plys his trade as a test match umpire.

Rother, Windsor Sec. I noticed from the Windsor website today that Windsor used Matt Collis No2 keeper from  Burnham, presume on loan, who played in the cup game against Shrivenham recently, so why didn't he play ?

When we knew Dennison would be out for a few games we spoke to several keepers and Collis said he was available for all the games scheduled but suddenly at late notice wasn't available for the Molesey game !  We have two other keepers dual-registered but they were both playing for their other teams that night.  A young keeper we had been chasing during the close-season has now become available after a trial period with a Scottish pro club so he will be signing as cover tonight !

Apart from George we also have outfield players Ben Harris, Miles Norman and Dan Hicks who are all very capable in goal so in that respect we are very lucky and although the situation wasn't ideal on Tuesday we had no qualms about George going in goal.  We wouldn't use our U18's team keeper as he's only 16 and not physically or mentally strong enough for Step 5 football yet but his time will  come.  Introducing the U18's into the 1st team setup is something we do on a regular basis but whereas you can do it with outfield players it's a very different prospect with keepers as it's such an isolated position and too much pressure can destroy the youngsters if you're not careful !

Thanks Windsor Sec.  With regards to missing players all clubs have that problem thats part and parcel of the season.  Totally agree about U18 keper especially if only 16.   Some will say if hes good enough hes old enough...that doesn't always run true especially in a specialist position such as a keeper....... but I do know of some big 16 year olds...it must be in the porridge !!! ;)
