Italy's highest court has ordered US student Amanda Knox and her former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito to face a retrial over the 2007 killing of Briton Meredith Kercher.

Miss Knox and Mr Sollecito spent four years in jail for murder but were freed on appeal in October 2011, largely on the grounds DNA evidence was flawed.

Prosecutors appealed and the Court of Cassation overturned the acquittals.

Rudy Guede was convicted in a separate trial and sentenced to 16 years.

The Ivory Coast national was found guilty of sexually assaulting and stabbing Ms Kercher. He admitted being at the house on the night of the killing in November 2007, but denies murder.

Meredith Kercher, from Coulsdon, south London, had been on a year abroad from Leeds University when she was found semi-naked in her bedroom and with her throat cut in the cottage she shared with Miss Knox.

Prosecutors believed she was killed in a brutal sex game that went wrong.

Addressing the court on Monday, they urged the judges to "make sure the final curtain does not drop on this shocking and dire crime".

Miss Knox's Italian lawyer, Luciano Ghirga, said on Monday her client was "very anxious" about the latest hearing.

Miss Knox lives in Seattle and a retrial is likely to take place in absentia, as the US is unlikely to extradite her, analysts say.

Roll on Monday folks when Amanda Knox will be cleared of having anything whatsoever to do with Meredith Kercher's murder, like I said the prosecution are clutching at straws and their appeal will be laughed out of Court, Amanda will finally be able to put the whole episode behind her and get on with the rest of her life.

Oops!!!!

There is a difference between an unsafe conviction and being "innocent". In most cases where someone gets off after spending time inside, it is because a judge decides that their conviction is unsafe because of a technicality, or because evidence was flawed. Of course, under the law of most of the world, you are innocent until proven guilty, so such a person usually walks. The judges verdict therefore makes them innocent in this sense. Miss Knox may very well walk following the review, but how would you feel if, when safely back in the US of A, she confessees that she did do it? Now that would make a great film wouldn't it? Who would you have play the unfortunate Miss Kercher?

My guess is that the review judge will order a retrial and she'll be convicted againl!

It was worth trawling through all that shite so as to find this!

Well Rhodesy does seem to have been posting elsewhere. Understandable that he'll need a bit sorry, quite a bit of time to work out his strategy to justify his failure to call this one right.

Missing Person Alert! Long streak of p*ss with a floppy hairdo, probably wearing a brown three piece suit and carrying a carrier bag loaded with old programmes. If found, please return to this thread, where, for change, his comments are urgently sought. May be in the Islington/ Whitehall areas.

Apologies for my silence this week folks since the ludicrous verdict on Monday although it came as no surprise whatsoever as we all might have guessed the crooked Italian Judicial system would have another twisted trick up their sleeve simply to prove a point. You have to feel sorry for Amanda and her devoted family, her maternal Grandmother, Elizabeth Huff, has bravely spoken out and said her Granddaughter had been 'persecuted' in Italy and that Italian prosecutors pursuit of Amanda amounted to 'harassment'. Mrs Huff stated the obvious when she told the Italian newspaper La Stampa that 'it's a persecution, she has already been tried twice, why reopen it:

I feel sorry for the kercher family who still haven't had justice. If Knox is found guilty do you agree she should spend a very long time behind bars/
