What is the Solution? (Guernsey fixtures)

Not quite true.

I believe that GFC offered 75% of the gate money. Out of that CWU would have to pay for their own flights and accomodation and as it would

have been a CWU home game, all season ticket holders would have to pay to get in. Assuming 1000 turned up paying on average £6 per head,

this would have netted approx. £4500 (75% of £6000) with costs of flights, hotels, parking and transport of about the same amount, it looks more

like a zero profit for CWU. Still, why let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Interesting, that's not quite how it was made out in the guernsey press!

I was relaying what was in the Press. Not spoken to anyone at CWU.

Jellyjumbo, I am led to believe that GFC offered 75% of the PROFIT from the match. If 1100 turn up, which is a distictict possibility, the stand holds 800 at £7.00 which is £5,600 and 3000 at £5.00 to stand which is £1,500. Total gate receipts £7,100. Expenses probably £4,500 = £2,600 profit. 75% of £2,600 = £1,950.00.

All this is prety irrelevent really as CWU were unable, for valid reasons IMO, to accept the offer. Like you say, why let the truth get in the way of a good story.

What is your source Jelly Jumbo?

I think even if this is true, there would have been some profit, even if not a huge one. Still, small profit is better than no profit. Shame CWU were unable to take up the offer

The Guernsey offer, which was 75% of gate profits after expenses was indeed a generous one.

Yes it would have been nice for GFC fans to see a home game in January.

Yes, a lot of our players would have liked another trip over though many could not make it.

For various reasons, we decided to decline the offer.

The match goes ahead at Cobham FC at 7.30pm on 23rd January.

correct on page 26 the rules have been printed ,i think we are just going round in cicles now our view as a club is we were not consulted not happy about that, yes we will go on day whoever decided we should play, yes it will be a great experiance, and yes we will not be at full strength because not all can take a day off so it will much harder but we will get on with it i bet ryeman league and southern league are hoping gfc dont join there league next year because same problems will occur,

As said before we at Godalming would be delighted to go to Guernsey in the league, and would virtually guarantee those that are employed would take a days holiday to do so if it meant going over midweek, travelling wise no worse than playing Bodmin away in the FA Cup ( which was on a Saturday) however we drew which meant Bodmin had to travel 4 and a half hours to us the following Tuesday, funnily enough they are step 6 and every player made the journey, reason being it was a big game (3rd qualifying round) so people make the effort, same way they will to play in front of over 1000 people.

Just an after thought, are Guernsey not playing RYE in the F.A. Vase on the 19th of January, suppose that game was drawn, and a Replay was needed. Then Colliers Wood fans would of booked in droves to come over, and the game would of been postponed.

Replays are now on the following weekend at this stage of the Vase, so the midweek Colliers Wood game is only threatened by our old foe the weather. The game on 26th January would be the one under threat, but it was interesting to note that Rye played this Saturday (defeating AFC Uckfield 9-1).

Sounds a touch ominous !

Right, going back top the original thread theme. Things could get progressively worse for Guernsey backlog of fixtures if the anticipted forthcoming snow arrives.... so whats going to be the situation and solution then ? Surely another headache for the fixture secretary ! So with more postponed games in the horizon for Guernsey and South Park (but not so concerning being UK Mainland based), whats going to happen..... prolong the season with the FA permission ?.

It's a fair question and at this stage I don't have an answer. Guernsey itself is less likely to have a frozen pitch, but people have got to be able to travel. Either way it's not going to help matters.

Plenty of dates left yet BG - for starters there are the Saturdays between their Friday & Sunday matches. ;)

Clearly still problems with the Footes Lane pitch given this news, =

Today's game, Guernsey Rugby Club vs Tring will now KO at 2pm at the Grammar School pitch.

Maybe the groundsman is being prudent and protecting the pitch but I guess it must be in an unplayable condition if the egg chasers can't play on it.....

Large puddle on Footes Lane. Situation for Guernsey made worse by today's postponement.

Maybe as someone mentioned in a previous thread a few weeks ago the respective captains should play rock, paper, scissors and get it televised live on GFCTV.

Seriously though, more headaches for all involved and especially the fixture secretary, Alan Constable given the number of games called off today and still a good six, seven weeks of winter to navigate.
